Lagos - A pay strike by teachers brought Nigerian schools to a standstill again on Thursday after talks with the government ended in deadlock.
Teachers launched the strike on Wednesday as part of a campaign to force the government to implement a promised pay deal. Talks with the government broke down on Tuesday.
"I am speaking with you from home because we have to comply with the directives of our union to stay at home," teacher Iyabo Daniel said. She said students were also told to stay away.
"I was in school yesterday, but we did not do anything as our teachers were nowhere to be found," student Tunrayo Azeez said.
Teaching was among the worst paid professions in the oil-rich West African country of 140 million inhabitants.
