Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe says he doesn't expect the US sanctions on his country to be lifted soon.

Johannesburg - Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe commandeered a flight - bound for Victoria Falls - to take him to Mozambique, Beeld reported on Thursday.

Passengers at Harare International Airport were left stranded for six hours after their flight was cancelled on Tuesday. An airport announcement informed passengers that their flight had been cancelled, but gave no explanation.

Airport personnel told some passengers that it was because Mugabe had commandeered the flight, the report said.

Mugabe was seen arriving at the airport half an hour after the announcement was made. Airport sources confirmed that the flight meant for Victoria Falls went to Mozambique with Mugabe on board, Beeld reported.

A source at the airport told Beeld: "Mugabe's plane probably developed problems. Most Air Zimbabwe planes are not working as there are not enough parts to repair them."

Mugabe insults others when he hijacks their flights. Would Brown of the UK keep his job if he did this? Why is there a very low standard for Africans and another for everyone else in the world? That even Africans condone? In Africa nobody cares enough about Mugabe-type behaviour fellow Africans. This global acceptance of substandard human behaviour in Africans is NOT acceptable? The few bad Africans like Mugabe give ALL Africans a bad rap. When will Africa hold Mugabe to account?

lee 11/29/2007 12:36:41 PM
only an ignorant idiot like moogabe could do something so stupid, why doesnt he just go somewhere and die

Mark 11/29/2007 12:43:03 PM
He cannot get away with something like that without a good reason. What an asshole! Somebody get rid of the fool and lets just pray that the poor raped country can get back on track.

Phillip 11/29/2007 1:03:07 PM
Refering to Alan's comment, this is not an African thing, it's a dictator thing. Zimbabwe is a one party state like South Africa used to be under the Nats.

Annie 11/29/2007 1:07:56 PM
He is arrogant, ruthless and his country is in shambles. He has no respect for his fellow citizens or anyone else. Allready five airlines pulled out of Zimbabwe and still SA turns a blind eye. Shame on you SA! The good news is, nobody lives forever. When "death" knocks on his door the people of Zimbabwe will be liberated. HANG IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

dave 11/29/2007 1:14:29 PM
This is not the first time this has happened. It is a pitty that the people of Zimbabwe has to accept an idiot like Bob and thanks to a spineless RSA government he will be there for some time to come. The only way he will go is when he dies, as he is fully aware of what will happen to him and his followers when he is no longer in power.

Rikki Rocket 11/29/2007 1:16:36 PM
I cannot wait for Mugabe to die in his sleep, blisfully unaware of the bullet that ripped through his skull.

MJ 11/29/2007 1:17:24 PM
What people do, because they can, gives a clear insight into who they really are.

barry 11/29/2007 1:21:10 PM
Phillip compares Zim to SA under the Nats. During the reign of the Nats you could still get fuel and the shops had food on the shelves. Hospitals worked and municipalities delivered services. Eks-Dom worked like a Swiss clock back then and there was a lot less crime and pollution! Something to be said for all that! Zim has her freedom and her people flock to other countries because they can?t get food and other basic necessities. Only an idiot would compare Zim to pre 94 SA.

Snowboy 11/29/2007 1:29:13 PM
This is just another example of how a tinpot dictator operates! As Mugabe is the darling of SADAC he can get away with just about anything without being censored by his fellow African leaders. A sad indictment on the leaders of our continent.

simone 11/29/2007 1:30:44 PM
Mugabe thinks he will life forever, but luckily death will come when ever it wants to. Mugabe must stop thinking about himself. The senail worm is fastly eaten his brain, because a sein person would not do the things he is doing to his country. We will pray for the people of Zimbabwe.

Mad Bob is an elder stateman and is thus revered by his peers (i.e. Mbeki, et al) and can do as he pleases. He ate that republic's banana long ago. Africa rules. SA under Zuma will go that way quicker.

Ant 11/29/2007 3:53:58 PM
The same thing happens in Luanda, they close the airport when Dos Santos is flying, sometimes for hours, too bad if you have a flight or connection. No one is allowed outside of the airport building. Always look after no 1. The saddest thing is that the worse the tinpot dictator and the more run down the country, the higher the self opinion.
