Cape Town - A young South African, Stephen Van Niekerk, makes his Hollywood debut this Friday as an extra in Femme Fatale, alongside Antonio Banderas and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.
Van Niekerk won a Ster-Kinekor Movie Club competition two years ago to attend the Cannes Film Festival and appears as an extra in the film Femme Fatale, directed by Brian de Palma.
Van Niekerk appears in the opening scene of the film, playing the role of one of the celebrities walking up the red carpet to attend a film premier. During his twelve hours on set Van Niekerk got to meet both the leading lady, Maria Romijn-Stamos and the director Brian de Palma.
"It was a real once in a life time opportunity for Stephen and just one of the many exciting benefits of being a
Ster-Kinekor movie club member. Not many people can claim to have appeared in a Hollywood blockbuster," Odette van Wyk, marketing executive Ster-Kinekor Theatres said.
Coincidentally, and not a requirement of the competition, Van Niekerk is an actor himself - he has just finished a short season on Backstage, in which he plays Dukes lawyer, James Brook Jnr, as well as co-hosting the Look and Listen Mega Music show on Dstv with 5fm's Ian F.
"It was an incredible opportunity to be on the set of an international film, an experience I will never forget. Those were twelve very special hours," Van Niekerk said.
Femme Fatale opens at Ster-Kinekor theatres on Friday January 24.
