New York - Pop princess Britney Spears and socialite Paris Hilton are among the celebrities getting too much over-the-top media coverage, according to a survey conducted for Forbes.com.
The website commissioned a survey asking members of the US public whether they thought certain celebrities were "overexposed" in the public eye.
While Spears scored a massive 72% overexposure rating, Hilton came in not far behind, with 68% of people saying they had seen enough of the millionaire heiress in the media glare.
Other celebrities getting the "enough already" treatment were Spears's ex-husband Kevin Federline (54%), actor Tom Cruise (53%) and party animal Nicole Richie (52%), followed by actress Lindsay Lohan, recently out of rehab.
Forbes said that most celebrities average between three and seven percent on the scale during the peak of their popularity.
Jake Halpern, author of Fame Junkies: The Hidden Truth Behind America's Favorite Addiction, told Forbes.com the celebrities were as much to blame as tabloid newspapers and magazines for the column inches written about them.
"You're only a celebrity as long as you're in the dialog of popular culture," he said, adding that without work, whether a movie or an album, celebrities relied on media exposure to keep in the public eye.
