London - Hollywood actor Billy Bob Thornton says he left Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie because he was afraid of her.
In an interview with NBC's Dateline show, he admitted she was "too beautiful and too smart" for him.
However the star claims they are now friends and that he's been spending time with her adopted son Maddox.
According to a report on IMDb.com Jolie and Thornton have been on a string of secret dates, prompting speculation that the two are back together.
Jolie was Thornton's fifth wife. They bragged about their sex lives in interviews and, at one time, wore vials of each other's blood around their necks.
