Glitter to be deported

Hanoi - Onetime British pop star Gary Glitter will be deported to Britain next week upon his release from a Vietnamese prison after serving a three-year term for child molestation, his lawyer said on Thursday.
"I paid for the ticket for him," Glitter's lawyer Le Thanh Kinh told AFP. "He's a British citizen, (Vietnam) wants him to go back to the UK."
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was arrested in Vietnam in November 2005 and convicted of committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau.
The 64-year-old former glam rocker was sentenced to three years in jail but was given a three-month reduction. He will be released on Tuesday.
Kinh did not specify the time at which Glitter would be released, nor did he say which flight he would be taking. There are no direct flights between Vietnam and Britain.
The British embassy in Hanoi refused to comment.
Glitter, once famed for his flamboyant bouffant wigs and silver jumpsuits, was jailed in 1999 by a British court for possession of child pornography.
He served half of a four-month term and then left Britain to live in several other countries, including Cambodia, before moving to Vietnam.
