Miami - Photographers clamoured for a shot of Naomi Campbell on the red carpet on Tuesday night, a fitting opening to a retrospective of photos from her two-decade modelling career.
The show, which features photos from top photographers such as Arthur Elgort and Steven Meisel, was organised by Art Photo Expo Miami. It is part of a larger exhibit called In Fashion Photo, which ends on December 7.
The show coincides with the international art fair Art Basel Miami Beach, running from December 4 to 7.
"I feel very honoured and flattered," Campbell said as she was bombarded by screams of photographers wanting her to pose. "It's like my timeline of my life really."
She said she didn't have a favourite photograph.
Grateful
"I have been really fortunate to work with so many photographers over the course of 22 years and I still get to work with the photographers I worked with when I was 16. So, I am quite blessed and quite grateful," she said.
When asked what she thought was the greatest misconception of her, she replied that she didn't know or care.
In recent years, Campbell's temper has rivalled her catwalk strut in garnering headlines.
She was sentenced to community service and a fine after she pleaded guilty to kicking, spitting and swearing at police officers aboard a plane at London's Heathrow Airport in April.
Assault charge
Last year, she was sentenced to a week of community service in New York City after admitting "reckless assault" for throwing a mobile phone at her housekeeper.
In 2000, she pleaded guilty in Toronto to an assault charge for beating an assistant.
Francois Trabelsi, the show's organiser, said he was very happy about the way it turned out.
"It's amazing. We have the best photographers of the world. We have Naomi Campbell. I am very happy," he said.
