Brit's ex-bodyguard may testify

2007-09-18 09:21

Los Angeles - A former bodyguard for Britney Spears went to court to support a sealed declaration about questionable behaviour by the pop star in a child-custody dispute between the singer and ex-husband Kevin Federline - but never got to testify.

Tony Barretto, 28, arrived on Monday with a lawyer but Family Court Commissioner Scott M Gordon held only a brief open session before clearing the courtroom of everyone but attorneys for Spears and Federline to privately discuss unsealing documents in the ongoing case.

Outside court, Barretto's attorney Gloria Allred issued a statement calling him a "key and secret witness."

"We are shocked that Ms Spears' attorneys chose not to cross-examine our client as to the substance of his declaration," Allred said.

"Our client was prepared to testify on issues of nudity by Ms Spears, drug use, and safety issues involving the children post-rehab."

The singer married Federline in October 2004. She filed for divorce last November and the divorce became official July 30.

Bizarre behaviour

The two have joint custody of sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Spears went through episodes of bizarre behaviour early this year - including shaving her own head - and finally spent time in rehab.

Her attempts at a professional comeback took a hit last week with a sloppy performance at MTV's Video Music Awards.

Spears hired Barretto when she left a rehabilitation facility in March but fired him May 17 because "he didn't hear her when she asked him to pick up her hat," Allred said.

Allred said that while working for Spears, Barretto became concerned about the safety and well-being of the pop star's children.

Federline and Spears were not present in court.

Laura Wasser, an attorney who represented Spears until Monday, said Barretto was a disgruntled employee.

Dropped by management company

She said Spears' "will be in excellent hands" with her new attorneys, Melvin Goldsman and Marci Levine. They did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

In another development on Monday, Spears was dropped by her management company, The Firm, just a month after she hired them for the run-up to the release of her new album on November 13.

"We have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears," the company said in a statement.

"We believe Britney is enormously talented, and has made a terrific record. But current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job."

What currently is happening to this young lady can happen to anyone. Why do people always enjoy or take pleasure in others downfall rather then helping and praying for a person. The world is still a better place it's the people that are mean and nasty. I wish I could help this young woman. Just by giving her the positivity of life and encourage her for it's never over until the last breath is taken from you. Concern one!

Remove the children all together and place them in a normal home!

The way she is treating her family (the very same people that normally stands by you in a time of critis) is going too far. They saw she needed help, tried to get her some help and how does she repay them...but accusing them of all sorts of things and cutting them off from her. The very fact that her parents decided to rather attend the children's birthday party at the ex's place instead of watching Britney at MTV says a lot about their thoughts of the ex's suitability as a parents.

As a working mother of 2 I am absolutely stunned by her antics and would rather have her children removed and put in the custody of a neutral person who will have their best interests at heart. Neither parent has a spotless record but Kevin seems more stable at the moment! Britney will have to work very hard to prove that she is a capable and committed mother and cut down on her social escapades. I hope she can get her act together soon for the sake of her children.

I think that Britney is in a very bad place right now and that she must get custody of her boys. Kevin Feaderline just married Britney for her money and have been seen in intimate situations with numerous other women, including Britney's mom. But no one is judjing him or her mom. How is Britney supposed to trust them, after how they treated her and let her down in the past. Losing her children will kill Britney. I think she has been through enough and should be left alone.
