London - A 13-month-old Malawian boy who US pop diva Madonna hopes to adopt arrived in Britain on Tuesday on a private plane from the southern African country, British media reported.
The BBC said the boy arrived at around 05:30 GMT at London's Heathrow airport.
The boy was spotted in Johannesburg on Monday as he boarded a flight to London with members of Madonna's entourage.
David Banda left Malawi as a group of human rights and child protection groups said they would go to court on Tuesday to challenge the speedy court decision that they said waived laws to grant Madonna temporary custody of the child.
Reporters watched the baby being carried by a woman from a chartered plane that an immigration official in Malawi said was carrying the boy, as well as two Britons and two Americans - one of whom listed her occupation as nanny.
Madonna left Malawi on Friday without the boy as officials were yet to sort out Banda's passport and visa issues.
The singer, who already has two children of her own, must return to Malawi for the adoption to be finally approved.
In an interview with Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, the boy's father Yohane Banda said he had agreed to the adoption as it was "a very good opportunity for David to get an education and grow up healthy".
