Taking Blaine to lunch

2003-09-29 20:15

Anthea Jonathan

Cape Town - While David Blaine attempts to live without food for 44 days in a glass box dangling near Tower Bridge, there is a man who has decided to remind him of just how hungry he really is.

The challenge is to "eat 44 different foods in front of the magic man". Kieran Hood is having lunch with Blaine every day and has documented his meals on the internet, complete with pictures.

So what has he eaten in front of magic man Blaine so far? Day one saw Hood enjoying an ice cream, day three's menu included a chicken, ham and cheese panini and day nine was a day for pork pies. Other treats included warm sausage rolls, bananas, chocolate flake desserts, sushi and scotch eggs.

Blaine started this stunt on September 5, and will come down on day 44, October 18. The magic man hasn't had an easy ride since the start of this stunt. People have come to him, and some have come to hurl abuse at him.

People have thrown eggs, golf balls and insults at the 30-year-old New Yorker in hopes of provoking a reaction. Others have bared their breasts or buttocks or banged drums to keep him awake at night.

One man has been charged with threatening behaviour and criminal damage after allegedly trying to cut off Blaine's water supply.

Have a look at Hood's attempts to remind Blaine just how hungry he is here.

Andriette says... We came to the Coca Cola Dome from Pretoria and arrived at 5:30. We had no problem with the parking and traffic after the show on Friday. There were lots of security guards directing traffic, but as usual, you had a couple of impatient drivers who caused problems. We were in the Golden Circle and the sound was great and the band was excellent. People should know by now what Joburg traffic is like on a Friday, especially with the roadworks and big events on major routes. You should have made plans to leave early. Read the article...
