Cape Town - South African audiences have flocked to see Batman: The Dark Knight.
Distributors Nu Metro told News24 on Thursday the movie has taken in over R7.2m at box offices countrywide.
Minki Thulo of Nu Metro said the box office takings equated to 273 153 people having gone to watch the movie.
According to Ster Kinekor Theatres CEO, Fiaz Mohammed, the film is "doing very well" and, he says, "there is no doubt in my mind that this should be the biggest film of 2008.
"While it's difficult to compare this film to the animated films, it has all the qualities of a blockbuster and we're very pleased with the results," he adds.
Batman: The Dark Knight opened on July 25.
