Los Angeles - A movie version of the successful ABBA stage musical Mamma Mia is in development, entertainment industry press reported on Wednesday.
The Hollywood Reporter said Universal Pictures were in negotiations with Phyllida Lloyd, who directed the West End and Broadway productions of the musical, to direct the film version.
Since it's opening in London in 1999, Mamma Mia has grossed more than $1bn around the world, making it one of the most successful musicals of all time.
The story follows a bride-to-be who is searching for the identity of her father. The musical features 22 songs by ABBA, the Swedish supergroup of the 1970s and 1980s, including Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, and The Winner Takes It All.
