Los Angeles - Movie star Christian Slater has filed for divorce from Ryan Haddon, his wife of five years, court papers showed on Wednesday.
The split came three months after Slater, 35, reportedly required 20 stitches in the back of his head following a fight with Haddon at a Las Vegas hotel in which she allegedly hit him with a drinking glass.
The pair married on February 14 2000 - Valentine's Day - and separated on January 5 this year, according to court papers filed on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Slater requested joint custody of the couple's two children, a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.
Following the Las Vegas fracas in November, Haddon, who works as a television producer, was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
But Slater reportedly told police that the incident was "a misunderstanding" and that the glass slipped out of his wife's hand when she tried to throw water at him as a joke.
The actor is set to perform in the Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' classic drama The Glass Menagerie, which opens next month.
He recently performed in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in London.
Slater has had a two-decade career in Hollywood after springing to fame as a teenager in 1986's "The Name of the Rose."
He is known for his roles in films such as 1994's Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Heathers, Very Bad Things, Windtalkers and more recently Churchill: The Hollywood Years. AFP
