Lima - Peruvian plastic surgeon Max Alvarez, who is accused of rape and medical negligence causing death, turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday after two weeks in hiding following a national broadcast of his alleged sex acts.
Alvarez (53) has been charged for anal rape by one of his patients, comedienne Lucy Cabrera, who allegedly secretly filmed him during a medical check-up.
The images videotaped by the camera, broadcast on television, allegedly showed him raping her after applying anaesthesia.
Since then, Alvarez also has been accused in the death of Argentine night club dancer Carla Badaracco (31) who died of internal bleeding during plastic surgery to her nose. Alvarez was romantically involved with Badaracco at the time of her death.
Denunciations against Alvarez, dubbed "Doctor Sex" by the Peruvian media, have mushroomed. He is also accused of operating under the effects of illegal drugs such as cocaine.
Press investigations said that Alvarez, who is a well-known figure in Peru as a plastic surgeon for actresses and entertainers and a panellist on television programmes, raped patients using dildos.
Cabrera went to Alvarez's office to complain about badly performed breast surgery and he convinced her he needed to carry out a new revision and she agreed to being anaesthetised. - Sapa-DPA
