Mom auctions child online

2006-01-11 10:39

Leeuwarden - A stressed Dutch mother has offered her one-year-old son for free through an auction website on the internet, national public radio reported on Wednesday.

The Marktplaats website, the Dutch subsidiary of Ebay, has removed the advertisement.

"He has no illnesses. I am disposing of him because I have so many things in my head and am not very good with children," said the person who placed the advert, claiming to be the mother.

Marktplaats said adverts with children for sale "luckily do not happen very often", although a mother had once offered her daughter who was going through puberty saying she could "do nothing with her".

The advertiser appeared to come from Leeuwarden in the far north of the Netherlands. A telephone number and an e-mail address were included, but the number could no longer be reached.

One of the 152 people who looked at the advert offered €2.50, despite the clear statement that the child was being offered free of charge.

The local police offered no immediate reaction. - Sapa-dpa

Pieter says... It took us about 4 hours to drive the 10kms home. The outgoing traffic was a catastrophy. The venue itself at Val de Vie is absolutely stunning, if it wasn't for the pathetic traffic planning and the bar closing so rediculously early, the evening would have been perfect. The Killers totally rocked in the sublime seting.

I'd definately do it over again, but I'll go early (like i did which made getting in a breeze) park outside the estate and just take in something extra to drink since heineken tastes like cat urine (from now on in my opinion - because of the bar that closed so early.) That's right heineken - you associate your name with crap rules/organising like that - you p!ss off your client base.

And big concerts... mmm, it's a free country and the scene is open for a new competitor, pretty sure the artists wouldn't even think twice about using a different organiser that doesn't such have a catastrophic organising reputation.

Also, KFM and people that spoke to friends that have already left said that the police had a roadblock and apparently made everyone blow the pipe. Don't know if this is true, but if everyone in the parking caught wind of something like this happening, rest assured you would have caused a burgerlike oproer. Paarl police/traffic cops, are you on crack? Or just a bunch of vengefull incompetent fired up morons? You were nowhere to be seen in helping people get out of Val de Vie.

As conclusion - i'd go again in a HEARTBEAT to Val de Vie (spectacular venue) but compromise for big concerts' pathetic inadequacy regarding the traffic and drinks. The Killers were also awesome. Read the article...
