DJ: Boks are 'dumb Dutchmen'

Cape Town - Fur may fly after a breakfast DJ at a local radio station said there were too many Afrikaans-speaking rugby players in the Springbok team and that the "dumb Dutchmen" should go.
Nigel Pierce of Cape Talk said shortly before his programme ended on Friday morning that ten of the 15 players in the Springbok team to play New Zealand at Carisbrook Park on Saturday morning, were Afrikaans-speaking.
"We need to get rid of these thick Dutchmen within the squad. Seriously," he said.
"On Thursday I said that there were just far too many Afrikaners in the rugby squad. I did a count on Thursday. Of
the 15 players taking to the park tomorrow (Saturday) at Carisbrook, ten are Afrikaans."
The NNP obtained a transcript of the programme, demanded an apology and threatened to complain to various ombudsmen and complaints directorates.
Alie van Jaarsveld, NNP media director, demanded an apology from Cape Talk "on behalf of all bridge-building South Africans."
The party is considering filing a complaint with the Broadcast Complaints Commission, the Human Rights Commission and the Commission for the Protection and Improvement of the Rights of Culture, Religion and Language communities.
"The NNP encourages freedom of speech. We cannot allow that any community and its language be attacked in this manner."
Pierce, who also worked at Good Hope FM and Kfm during the past two years, made front-page news when he described Jackie Selebi, national police chief, as a "gorilla who is being paid for work that he obviously can't do".
He described Peter Marais, former mayor, as a "fat pig" and an "ugly bastard".
Pierce was also taken off air after a man made allegations on his programme of sexual relations with the entertainer Soli Philander. An undisclosed sum was paid to Philander after a settlement was reached.
Neither Pierce, nor Colleen Louw, station manager of Cape Talk, were available for comment.
