Johannesburg - Ja, boet, you know it's not every day you get a ou tuning you "ag, but let's climb in the bakkie and go to Northam. There's going to be lots and lots of dust".
But there seems to be a good few thousand of us who dig dust with some music thrown in so this week we're unearthing the sleeping bag and pointing the pick-up in the direction of Limpopo and the Northam district where Nibs van der Spuy joins up with ous like Sipho Hotstix Mabuse for the jol we have come to call Oppikoppi.
A printed dinges from the promoters you might find under your windscreen wipers while parked off in Jo'burg says the Oppikoppi music fest this year runs from Thursday to Saturday this week.
Ag and you know these ous say if you're a racist or a xenophobe or a sexist or even a narrow-minded know-it-all laaitie you may as well scrape down the braai and party at home because Oppikoppi doesn't want you there.
And if you're one of those who smaak to strap a .44 magnum to your side, leave the firearm locked up at home in the safe. No guns allowed, Oppikoppi ouens. Also no motorbikes, no quads or fireworks. These are no good for the festival grounds.
Have a good jol
While we're on matters verboten, los the wild game on the farm out, hey? Also leave pets at home, they get lost and confused moerse easy. Also that locket ouma willed to you must maar stay in the bedside drawer. Oppikoppi doesn't hassle with a lost and found so if you lose something lekker it stays lost.
But you know, as they say in this printed dinges, Oppikoppi is all about dust and tunes and thorns and tunes and sun and tunes.
Festival rule number one is have a good time, but not to the detriment of others.
O ja, and besides Nibs and Hotstix, other ouens and cherries who'll be gooiing the sounds and vibes are Freshlyground, Karen Zoid, Desmond and the Tutus, Koos Kombuis, The Mojomatics (Italy, says the printed dinges), Valiant Swart, Foto Na Dans and Bed On Bricks. Lekker.
