Hofmeyr SMS rumours 'sick'

Pretoria - Steve Hofmeyr's spokesperson has responded to SMS rumours that the singer and actor has died.

Spokesperson Amanda Singleton said Steve Hofmeyr had been discharged from hospital on Saturday and was doing fine.

"He is at home watching rugby and Natasha [Sutherland, his wife] is taking care of him," Singleton said, adding that she said she had no idea where the rumours of his death had come from.

"I can't imagine what kind of sick mind someone must have to start a rumour like that," Singleton said.

Hofmeyr himself told Talk Radio 702 on Saturday that he was out of hospital, saying "I'm doing fine".

However the star was quick to add the last few days have been difficult for him.

"It's not like me to be so stuck... I'm going to have to relook life a bit."

Hofmeyr had undergone an emergency operation on Sunday to repair a perforated colon and had remained in a Johannesburg hospital until Saturday.

He recovered quickly and Beeld reported on Saturday he had been teaching the nurses how to play the guitar, and sang to another patient in his hospital room.
