My heart broke - Talent judge

2009-11-10 17:01

Duncan Alfreds

Cape Town - SA' s Got Talent judge Shado Twala says her heart broke when her favourites didn't go through on the reality show.

"You know, my heart broke because my favourites weren't always South Africa's favourites, but that's how the show's designed," she told News24.

"I'm so proud of South Africa and I'm very emotional," Twala said as she prepared for the semi-final in Johannesburg.

The battle for the title of SA's most talented builds to its conclusion on Thursday and viewers are being encouraged to vote for their favourites.

She said that the country "undoubtedly" has talent, even though her favourites didn't always make it through to the following rounds.

George Avakian from Johannesburg and Louwtjie Rothman from Cape Town were the first two contestants to go through to the finale.

Twala said she's feeling nervous, but has enjoyed the experience. However, she didn't say whether she got along with fellow judge Randall Abrahams, notorious for his brutal honesty.

"There were some strange acts: A woman brought in a snake and I was terrified, thinking that everyone fears snakes like I do," she said. "Bringing a dog or cat I can understand, but a snake - that was my scariest moment on the show."

The public can vote by sending an SMS to 34768, and SMSes cost R2. The finale will be broadcast on SABC 2 at 19:30 on Thursday.

I was also very saddened that the kids went out of the competition, but I think they have a bright future. They came up against individuals with a remarkable talent, anyone who has seen the movie August Rush will appreciate what remarkable talent the two men who went through have.

Boring stuff. Look for talent instead of single gig, warm feeling rubbish. Thank goodness for the sport channels!!! Oh heck also boring repeats. Back to the novelle!!

Good Luck to them all! I take my hat off to anyone that had the guts to go and stand on that stage in front of the whole country, even the ones' that you could see were only doing it for the joke. And Pete, by the way, no one is forcing you to watch it so keep to your sports channels!

With all the talent out there , why feature on the musical side only as its obvious that the competition is dominated by the musical aspect(singing, dancing & playing an instrument). There should be a different show focusing solely on raw, unique talent, as there are enough ,dancing &/or singing shows out there like strictly come dancing, superdance,so you think you can dance, idols, jika majika, shield etc .many people can dance & sing ,yet many people has real talent - some that we hardly ever see or are aware of.Look at the soccer magic act or the Adino act,etc.. You seen some of the acts that werent given a chance or was , but when it was time to vote or given a judges choice , they lose out.So far the four acts that was chosen in the semi finals are music- related -all of which are single acts .So much duets & groups has put so much extra effortinto their act,had originality, were in sync etc.I understand its what the public audience voted for ,but had it been just based on a 'complete talent',I guarentee that many rare ,unique acts would have made it to the finals.Sa has talent should then rather change the name to sa has musical talent. Its unfair that the guys that has a rare talent are outvoted & not recognised by their 'talent'. Its clear that both the audience & viewers get more excited by dancing & singing - something with a beat . Other good unique acts fall by the wayside.WITH SA HAS TALENT,it should exclude all musical acts & & concerntrate on unusual acts thus giving them a fair chance . I dont miss an episode of sa has talent, but personally I think that its rather unfair .why cant south africa be unique & create their own show - without the muscal side.dont get me wrong, i love dancing , singing , in fact there were some talented dancing/singing acts out there like faith, that girl from vereeniging ,roses ,showstopper etc .Thanking you - keep up the good work , for a show well- organised

After last nights semi final, it proves that either, we have a shortage of talent or we do not have people capable of judging talent. I think that the latter is more applicable. I was dismayed that two of the judges pushed their buzzers during the dog act. This should not apply during the semi finals. Who allowed them through in the first place? The same judges who buzzed them: Shado and Ian. At least the other judge allowed them to finish their show without interruption.

SA loves an honest, direct and straight forward, uncomplicated, real assessment and judgement of a contestants ability and Randall Abrahams always remains true to this whenever he adjudicates. No disingenuous comments or sugar coating helps make Idols and SA got Talent credible because of his professionalism. He doesn't waste air and get it right nine times out of ten. Peace Bra G.

It has been entertaining watching the semi-finals. We have such talented ppl in SA. I imagine choosing the 21 was really hard for the judges. And now it's down to 6. I wish Darren all the best 4 2nite - he is a pleasure to watch and George and Louwtjie are so good also. I hope u guys get into the top 3.

Kwesta 11/12/2009 3:37:55 PM
Go George Go!!!!!!!!!

Gracy 11/13/2009 12:23:05 PM
