Johannesburg - African National Congress deputy president Jacob Zuma should be the next president of South Africa, said the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) on Sunday.
Gauteng provincial chairman Kedy Maphatfoe was speaking after the association's two-day conference held in Nasrec.
"With the ANC's conference to be held in Limpopo in December in mind, we have resolved to support comrade Jacob Zuma as the next president of the ANC and the country," he said.
Maphatfoe said other issues that were discussed at the conference were the need for housing and medical assistance and the importance of bringing the remains of those who were buried in exile to South Africa.
Women's league also at talks
"The government needs to assist our comrades in housing and medical areas.
"The remains of those buried in exile should also be returned, it's the government's responsibility," said Maphatfoe.
Umkhonto we Sizwe, established in 1961, was the military arm of the ANC during the struggle against apartheid.
The conference was attended by about 200 delegates including the ANC Women's League.
