Kaya FM boss resigns

Johannesburg - Managing Director of Kaya FM Charlene Deacon, will be resigning from the radio station, it was announced on Friday.
Arthur Mashiatshidi, chairperson of the board of Kaya FM, said that Deacon would be officially leaving the Gauteng based station on March 3, and has agreed to stay on in a consulting capacity until a suitable replacement is found.
"Deacon is considering opportunities in the broader broadcasting sector and will announce her intentions shortly," Mashiatshidi said.
Deacon has for 18 years worked in the radio industry. She was appointed Managing Director/Station Manager of Kaya FM in 2000.
"I have enjoyed my many years with Kaya and the challenge it offered me to re-position and grow the business. I will miss the many people I have met and worked with. However it is time to move on and spread my wings, there are exciting things happening in the broadcast space right now and I want to be a part of it," Deacon said.
Mashiatshidi said: "Charlene grew Kaya's listener base from 603 000 to 1.383 million during her time with us. She has also managed a growth in advertising revenue in excess of 900% over the seven-year period."
