Cope 'must keep quiet'

by
2008-11-26 09:10

Dear Editor,

The argument by Mphatjie Monareng where he argues that Shikota still has time to form policies is not only disingenuous but foolhardy of how politics operate.

Seme, who he quotes, was not a leader of an apartheid government who went on rampage to attack the same government after losing power through democratic means.

If it is unfair for ANC to critic Shikota's noise without policy base, it should equally be unfair of Shikota to continue this misdirected attack on the ANC.

The ANC meets to talk about the best policies and programmes to better the lives of the people whilst Shikota leaders meet to craft insults against the ANC, hence the ANC and all progressive thinking people need to call for Shikota to form policies or shut up.

Why not state that Lekota and Shilowa are already fighting over leadership even before they go to their conference?

Why not tell us that Mda has called Zuma a rapist. Why not telling us that Mluleki George wants to contest the position of deputy dhair which is touted for Shilowa?

Please chief, spare us these clowns. We already see exactly who they are: power mongers, wishing to hold on to power for ever.

Luther Lebelo

I love how you call the ANC"progressive thinking people" That's the joke of the day. Now I have a smile on my face. thanks

Mhpatjie Monareng 11/26/2008 9:27:39 AM
Dear Mr. Lebelo, we can't keep quiet when leaders of the ANC go around the country making reckless statements about crime, teenage pregnancy, economic policy and wanting to rule until Jesus Christ comes back. And we do not need policies in order to differentiate between demagogues and real politicians.

Duzi 11/26/2008 9:29:03 AM
Although what you say MIGHT be correct, you gain yourself absolutely no crediblity by insulting the people you write this article to. I guess now all we need to do is wait for Tsepho's racist rantings after this...

Fred 11/26/2008 9:31:46 AM
Well it's not difficult to see that you are a diehard ANC supporter and like the rest of them you are running scared and will attack COPE at every opportunity. Facts are that the ANC and its thugs started the name calling and now that the other parties are retaliating you guy start to moan and bitch. If you can't take the heat don't start the fire. The only one who needs to shut up is you as your letter is pointless and full of half truths twisted to suit your needs. Go get a life you fool.

nthatuwa 11/26/2008 9:32:00 AM
The attacks are correctly directed and well intended and extremely necessary to open the eyes of the people as well those of the ANC itself.Luther, your insults against Shikota are Misguided.I almost feel sorry or your.SHAME!!And who exaclt are you writing this letter to?It seems you're angry and frustrated. Why not vesit a shrink?HUH,just my free advice in a Free Country(well,@ least for now,until....God knows what)

Big Bad Bob 11/26/2008 9:33:27 AM
Is a right for all under our constitution. It is, of course, not an absolute right, but it is universal. And it should apply to political parties. COPE should be able to speak, be able to pronounce on the state of the nation or on government policy - though this should not become defamatory or calculated to incite violence. And we all have the right to pay attention, or not, as we see fit.

nthatuwa 11/26/2008 9:34:16 AM
And Mluleki George is contesting the position of Deputy 'dhair'?what the flip is that, is the such a position in the ANC?I suppose you can find anthing now in the new ANC.LOL

L van Heerden 11/26/2008 9:35:32 AM
Can you please explain to us how politics operate that a party yet to be launched is expected to have stated its policies? What is the misdirected attack on the ANC that you refer to, other than referring to comments made by Zuma and his surrogates? Fighting over leadership is a democratic process and as long as it is resolved democratically, I see no problems with that. It is pathetic to see such baseless attacks on COPE from people who claim to love democracy.

jackey 11/26/2008 9:38:57 AM
You quick to find faults of COPE attacking the ANC but what about the other way around..Being called dogs, dying horses, jesus donkey, dead snake skin and interupting and sabotaging COPE meeting and they must just stand & keep quiet..How about JZ stepping down and facing his 16 charges and bring down the "others" with him and get his name cleared in court and become the ANC president again..I mean wasnt it him that said he wants to tackle corruption ? Lead by eg & face the music...

Badger 11/26/2008 9:39:00 AM
...and let me guess, You going to vote for the ANC, aren't You ??????

Les-Maada 11/26/2008 9:39:05 AM
interest in Anele Mda & COPE's youth league's insults festival! There is no such frenzy as Malema's drivel has always received & it is yet to receive a spice up from the News24's usuall dump constructors whom i may not name for the sake of progress!! This is clear proof that the Media is indeed not just only aimed at destroying Malema but to also tarnish the ANC's image irrespectively!COPE, like the DA is a joke & is still very far from being taken seriousley by South Africans at large!Hola Luther

Chips 11/26/2008 9:39:16 AM
anc is the one that should keep quiet, here my brother you are barking at the wrong door.te resignation of people who even voted for zuma in polokwane is the testimony that COPE is the party!

Ndlovu 11/26/2008 9:41:37 AM
When will people realise that all COPE is trying to do is reinstate an acceptable level of democracy back into the government of SA. I do not like the guys who started COPE, but I will support their cause, to create a meaningful opposition to the tyranical leadership of the ANC. I will vote COPE simply to ensure that there is a substantial opposition party or alliance and not because I subscribe to their policies.

unfair 11/26/2008 9:41:39 AM
Luther , dont you think its unfair to disrupt political meetings. Talking about power mongers well I think the ANC have perfected that one. I think you dont look at all the angles in your article.

Thembalabantubonke 11/26/2008 9:42:07 AM
COPE has capable people that can lead the party at anytime. UDM has Holomisa and no one else. ID has Patricia De Lille and no one else. The ANC has Zuma, Malema, Vavi and no one else. The DA has Helen Zille and no one else. It is hence healthy that COPE has several leaders to pick from and if done democratically, we might end up with someone that is synonymous with their party. Outside of Zille, can you think of someone who can take over from her? What about ID, IFP, UDM,. Competition is good

makondo 11/26/2008 9:42:13 AM
i spit on this garbage of an article...really what rubbish

Wikus 11/26/2008 9:42:56 AM
"The ANC meets to talk about the best policies and programmes to better the lives of the people" should read: "The ANC meets to talk about the best policies and programmes to better their own lives". Case and point, the disbanding of the Scorpions. But why am I even trying to convey my point to you(ANC members in general)? It's not as if U'll spontaneously sprout a brain capable of independent thought. If ignorance is bliss, why are all ANC members so angry? Food for thought.

SimonP 11/26/2008 9:43:32 AM
Why should COPE be quiet and the ANC be allowed to make as much noise as it wants? More double standards? Or is it the ramblings of a deluded, brainwashed fool?

paul 11/26/2008 9:43:33 AM
Can we PLEASE debate about something else than COPE????? I am so tired of reding the same letter in different forms. Please, I am not coping anymore!!!!

TSHEPO 11/26/2008 9:44:40 AM
So true and to the point, Cope must first sort out the fighting within as those two are dangerous especially "Terror" he is ppower monger and he is not a good leader. Poor George, Shilowa has declared himself a Deputy Chair where George get a weak position of Treasury and by the way George doenst even understand the title Treasury... And here comes the "Thief" Madisha who is gunning for Labour which Labour??? This Cope People are dreaming and their do so to decived the mindless people .. Viva ANC Viva...

ADW 11/26/2008 9:44:51 AM
Sorry Luther... you obviously do not read the newspapers, do not keep your ear to the ground and are typical of the "blinded ANC-voter" type, mobilised by everything the Jesus-like leaders tell you! Who said people were "Dogs" first? Who said people were "Headless Snakes" first? Who said "He's a poor father and nothing by a security guard" first? Who then were the people who had the integrity to retract statements and without reservation apologise to Zuma for inflated statements?

Martin 11/26/2008 9:45:43 AM
Haha Luther, you are so funny ?The ANC meets to talk about the best policies and programmes to better the lives of the people?. Let?s recap shall we?. 1. Health Care ? the worst in the world 2. Education ? non existent 3. Road infrastructure ? Falling Apart 4. Water ? Crisis looming and will be deadly once it hits us 5. Electricity ? Well we all know about this one 6. Housing ? more squatter than ever before 7. Unemployment ? increased in the last 15 years like never before So please tell me how it better the lives of the people?

Treasure 11/26/2008 9:48:38 AM
Well said. Lekota (Alcoholic), Mbhazima (Grade E Security) and the crew just want ot hold on to power and in the process misleading other people who cannot think for themselves. MY ANC MY VISION MY FUTURE! AMANDLA!

khaya 11/26/2008 9:48:42 AM
The anc is the one atticking not the other way round and there is no fighting between MR George and Mr Shilowa, it's all in your crazy imagination. You not gonna change anyone's mind we voting for SHIKOTA. viva COPE

NN 11/26/2008 9:48:49 AM
...and nothing else. Perhaps its because they know they are standing on shaky ground.

Karen 11/26/2008 9:52:10 AM
It was actually the ANC that started discredited COPE and its leaders and members, hurling insults right from the start. The ANC has done, and is doing everything they and their supporters can do to prevent COPE getting off the ground. No, COPE should not keep quiet, in fact the only party that should keep quiet is the ANC. Everytime they open their mouths they just make more and more of a fool of themselves.

LaDenzo 11/26/2008 9:52:14 AM
You are so correct Luther!

Majase 11/26/2008 9:54:36 AM
I think we've found one of the 74% of decided voters that will vote ANC...

Rian 11/26/2008 9:54:54 AM
Why do the ANC and it's supporters hate freedom of speach so much. The ANC can't handle critisism. I suggest you and your comrades, grow up. Stop being corrupt and useless. Then maybe people won't have anything bad to say.

TB 11/26/2008 9:55:26 AM
I have a thought for you: Why do the ANC not leave COPE alone and rather try and IMPLEMENT their own wonderful policies for a change? They have been in power for 14 years and all they managed was to get stuck on Chapter 1 Version 1.1: How to stuff up everything that used to work.

Simphiwe 11/26/2008 9:55:29 AM
Interestingly, I know Luther in my days at Telkom and not sure if he still works there.I find it amusing that all these people that talk too much like the Malema's and Vavi and you Luther, that you are all dismal failures in carrying your responsibilities given to you by either ANCYL,COSATU and CWU respectively. What Luther fails to tell the readers is his failure to solve worker problems and yet busy defending JZ and the ANC clowns. Luther I hope you still remember me

REE 11/26/2008 10:02:57 AM
This is very worrying to see our beautifully hard fought democracy being trashed by people who are power hungry believe that if the Shikota team understand what is democratically elected means or what is innocent until proven means, they are the one who have been championing the gospel of democracy, but now they are singing a different tune of insult. I think even the media is not fare to ANCYL president cause they hammered him about his KILL words but they did not do the same to Mda and Madisha.

IandI 11/26/2008 10:04:05 AM
So,Luther you think COPE should shut up but you are using your right to say what u feel on this website? Has this country turned into an animal farm where some people are more equal than other? We know ANC polices but there have failed to alleviate the plight of the poor. You can have a million policies that dont work, like the ANC or formulate a few that will work ,given a chance.Lets not talk about RDP pondokkies, decayed state hospitals and the hopeless education system implemented by the ANC.

Simphiwe 11/26/2008 10:05:17 AM
Luther and Vavi must 1st do their jobs well and earn the trust of workers who pay their hard earned salary on trade unions.Hoping that Luther is still at Telkom, telkom is privatising all its core services and what are you doing with all these people that are likely to loose their jobs after a yr of this exercise.Leave COPE, focus on your work and Malema on youth issues.I never had faith on CWU which Luther happened to represent.

mzansi 11/26/2008 10:06:55 AM
Does the poor little ANC not like it when all the attention doesn't go to them? Welcome to politics, the job of the opposition is exactly what COPE are doing, to draw attention to the faults and shortcomings of the ruling party.

Point Blank 11/26/2008 10:07:59 AM
This is the type of political intolerance ALL parties met yesterday on. You Sir have no right to deny COPE a platform, both the ANC and COPE have apologized in good faith I suggest you do the same.

Jeff 11/26/2008 10:08:30 AM
I've never read something so true about Shikota in a long time. Each time they open their trouts it's..the ANC..the ANC..It's very obvious...the're simply power mongers.

cassuis 11/26/2008 10:09:30 AM
what a load of drivel. You talk of ANC policies, are these the same policies they have being preaching for 15 years? the same policies that has seen the select few pocketing millions ( cope included ) are we talking about the same party policies where you have clowns making ludicrous statements on a daily basis (mamparra Malema and Compela jumps to mind) come now brother, you faught for democracy, now you have it, deal with it, competition is great!!!

Cape Town Kid 11/26/2008 10:10:08 AM
No-one more than activists understand this meaning. The strength of our unity does scare those who seek to divide us.Why did verwoerd etc build seperate communities, becos they understood that unity amongst blacks will hurt them. Now Shikota has a personal hate for JZ for losing their powerful positions. It is this personal deceit that has found expression amongst like-minded fools becos they too have no constituency. It is this personal greed that is dividing all of us becos its not 4 common good.

fern 11/26/2008 10:10:37 AM
you mean like the ANC clowns?

Man 11/26/2008 10:11:33 AM
I think you should stop reading too much junk papers and come here to claim that they are facts. To correct you fellow comrade there is no body who is contesting positions in COPE. This will only be done on the launch on 16 Dec 2008 as you have noticed that there are still some key positions that are not yet known like President and deputy president etc. This will only be done when we finished wiping out the ruling party. Another thing please concentrate on your ANC and leave what other parties.

malcolmx 11/26/2008 10:12:51 AM
Who cares about all this banter between these two ethnic groups. All thats important is that the ruling party is weakening at a rapid rate. They have had 14 years of free reign in which they have set up the foundations to destroy this country. With them losing much power, perhaps we will see the handbrakes being applied to all the chaos they have caused.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 11/26/2008 10:14:55 AM
Thats what this letter is. In all retrospect, the ANC is the REAL party that should just shut up.

Juan 11/26/2008 10:14:55 AM
Opposing political parties should NOT attack each other's leaders, but rather debate and attack each other's policies. Obama never attacked McCain personally, and he ended up winning. The anc-cope slander just shows me the barbaric/caveman state of sa's poletics and leadership!

Sugan 11/26/2008 10:16:00 AM
No one argued the policies of the ANC. The behavoir of the senior ANC members and their disregard to the laws of the country was in question. It is this point that COPE differs. They stand for the law and against anyone who breaks it.

I'll push U off the Edge! 11/26/2008 10:16:28 AM
"The ANC meets to talk about the best policies and programmes to better the lives of the people" LOL Ahhh...what planet have u been living on! This is the exact Brainwashed nonsense that all u ANC sheep spill everyday! All in all 1/5 for being able to spell!

Z 11/26/2008 10:18:24 AM
It is so amazing that there is nothing new about your article. Please don't waste our time. Be creative and come up with strong potical points to comment about COPE. As an ANC member, I feel disturbed by people like you. PLEASE STOP IT

Iceberg 11/26/2008 10:19:59 AM
The constitution guarantees freedom of speech to all. Cope as well as the ANC are free to say what they want as long as it is not hate speech, whether they have policies or not. Luther, you are running scared because the flaws in your beloved ANC and its leaders are being exposed to all... Telling people to shut up is going to get you nowhere.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 11/26/2008 10:20:38 AM
Thats what this letter is. In all retrospect, the ANC is the REAL party that should just shut up.

AJ 11/26/2008 10:21:45 AM
the guys in COPE will behave and function not all that differently from the ANC (which they were a part of for decades). Yes, intelligent voters already know that.

Pitso 11/26/2008 10:21:56 AM
Your comments did not inspire me to beleave what you have just rased, all i hear is the same retotic that the anc keeps loading off to the media, COPE is here to stay whether you like it or not, South Africa needs a viable opposition that is going to ensure that when the anc errs, there is another party that can govern this country, so this is a good development that we all need to embrace, its good for our democracy.

Jim (too) 11/26/2008 10:23:29 AM
BORING!!!

Nicole 11/26/2008 10:24:16 AM
spare us these clowns and the ANC clowns. We have been over and over this topic and neither the ANC, COPE or neutral supporters have anything new to say. Find a new topic to fight over PLEASE!

jim 11/26/2008 10:28:45 AM
The ANC is obviously feels threatened by Cope. Its funny how ridiculously hypocritical the ANC's insults of Cope have been! Its like, so embarrasing.

Tim 11/26/2008 10:29:22 AM
Can we not have a separate forum where all the little political pawns can congregate and yell how stupid each other are? Maybe with pictures so that we can see who sticks their tongue out the furtherest. Nothing has to be based on truth just pure fiction.

Thabo 11/26/2008 10:32:30 AM
Both COPE and the ANC have serious credibility issues. By no means was the Zuma Polokwane coup democratic. Down to branch level the Polokwane delegates were manipulated, ANC branches closed, to get the pro-Zuma support. Clever constituency manipulation like NP in 1948. That this happened in party level (quasi-state level due to ANC large support) does not change that is was manipulated; ala George Bush in Miami. The problem with COPE is that all this happened under the COPE leaders' watch.

Doorboot 11/26/2008 10:41:29 AM
What a badly crafted letter, surely you can do better. As to your argument, what policies of the ANC are you talking about? The one where they promised millions of houses when they took over in 94? Or the one where they enriched themselves at the expense of the poor? Or the one where criminals are given free reign? Please chief give us a break.

Politically interested 11/26/2008 10:43:03 AM
Interesting that you say "power mongers, wishing to hold on to power for ever" Thats exactly what er see in the ANC , or why is ZUMA avoiding to be trialed , if you have not done something wrong , you have nothing to hide and nothing to loose

Vercinge 11/26/2008 10:47:22 AM
You ANC suppoters always say the same things. You bore us with your "power mongers". If you were civilised you would not have wrote this. It shows that ANC is no different from a cockroach and the white stuff and corner of a pig's mouth. You always praise ANC for bringing great change. You forget that ANC was under the Shikotas at the time, now Malemas take credit. You idiots you are busy worshipping Zuma, what did he do for the greater good of SA? yet you praise him for what?

Francois 11/26/2008 10:47:29 AM

I cannot agree more with Luthet Lebelo

LJB 11/26/2008 10:50:13 AM
What policies. The ANC thumbsuck a few ideas, of wich nothing ever comes of. I've read quite a bit in the media about statements COPE has made against ANC members.... and that they have unequivocally apologised and retracted these statements. Not like the ANC hey?????

victor 11/26/2008 10:56:37 AM
Is it not interesting that " The Times" has covereed the story of the battle for position in Shikota.Questions have to be asked as to why. This newspaper and media in general which is white owned is spreading propaganda against the ANC.They spread lies prio to Polokwane hoping Zuma will lose, they forget that votes are not won /decided by them but the masses. You can insult JZ all you want but to many people he is a hero.

Mart 11/26/2008 10:57:32 AM
"power mongers wishing to hold onto power forever"... didn't your beloved anc leader say that the ANC will rule until Jesus returns?? "spare us these clowns", is that maybe because there is enough of them running around already????

Citizen 11/26/2008 10:57:39 AM
Luther, this is just your opinion, and no-one really cares what you think anyway. Cope, let your voice be heard! It is your democratic right!

Cpt Crunch 11/26/2008 11:00:07 AM
Oh please, can we debate something other than this ANC vs COPE drivel! Speaking for my self, I can honestly say I've had enough! I'm sure even the most intellectually challenged amongst us will find something more constructive to discuss. Surely News24 cannot become a mouthpiece for political parties, however impartial it may be. Stop publishing this ridiculous he-said-she-said nonsense!

The Anti Bunny 11/26/2008 11:02:09 AM

Mogaile 11/26/2008 11:06:10 AM
Shikota is made of angry clowns that hardly understand what SA needs right now, they are the very same moron that were in the ANC that did not deliver, if the ANC had not delivered. What is BEE, AA,Social Grants, Ancestral Land claims, free school fees and and and...

SA citizen 11/26/2008 11:11:47 AM
Mr lebelo, your letter is full of hatred towards cope. Have you ever thought that maybe COPE could be the solution to this whole confusion within the anc. People can see wrong from right... and will choose right ofcourse. Please stop defending this corrupted anc.

Vasco@Delportshope 11/26/2008 11:12:10 AM
I cud nt agree more. ANC is the answer to all the problems faced by many of us, if u read plkwne reso's, u wil hv no doubt bt 2 align yrself wit the best. Cmrades mst stop 2 criticise individuals within ANC, bt let dem cum wit progresive alternative policies N programmes 2 de ANC, I BET U, THEY DNT HV.

kwk 11/26/2008 11:12:25 AM
What about the clearly and repeatly stated policy of electoral reform? Currently the ANC NEC elects premiers, majors etc.Now how wrong is that! COPE says no, the people should decide who governs them and hold them to account.I am sure the ANC and their suck ups want them to keep quiet about this policy.

Albert 11/26/2008 11:13:38 AM
When Anele Mda first spoke, I said to my colleagues this young woman will cause trouble for the Cope not before long. First she said her party had plenty of names to choose from but up to this day they do not have a pure name of their own except acting like cuckoo birds which lay their eggs in other birds'nests. Secondly, she insults leaders of other parties as rapists. Wait and see more to come.

Mark T 11/26/2008 11:14:38 AM
It is sad that our both the ANC and COPE are resorting to name calling and insults. Neither are innocent. Surely both should realise they are political parties and start telling us why they deserve our votes.

Jabu Pule 11/26/2008 11:14:53 AM
I want to see how they going to elect their President... Is it handpicking or democratic processes? COPE youth leader has men problems, we know her. The "Security Guard" Shilowa has got alot of things to do in short space of time and less brains to handle all the work load. COPE is disregarding the imperatives of uplifting the previously disadvantage, "Loud Mouth" said Affirmative Action must be abolished.

Jabu Pule 11/26/2008 11:15:34 AM
I want to see how they going to elect their President... Is it handpicking or democratic processes? COPE youth leader has men problems, we know her. The "Security Guard" Shilowa has got alot of things to do in short space of time and less brains to handle all the work load. COPE is disregarding the imperatives of uplifting the previously disadvantage, "Loud Mouth" said Affirmative Action must be abolished.

Thokozani 11/26/2008 11:19:19 AM
For me peis a very said case, it represents poor polical practices. It also represents people taking wild chances on the public's expense. i mean agree with the writer if they stand for change, why can't we hear thier policy strategies. Instead all they do is talk about what the ANC did and did not do. Mark my words they will disappear just like other traitors of the liberation struggle and South Africa will be watching.

The Anti Bunny 11/26/2008 11:19:43 AM

I cud nt agree more. ANC is the answer to all the problems faced by many of us, if u read plkwne reso's, u wil hv no doubt bt 2 align yrself wit the best. Cmrades mst stop 2 criticise individuals within ANC, bt let dem cum wit progresive alternative policies N programmes 2 de ANC, I BET U, THEY DNT HV.

MD 11/26/2008 11:20:30 AM
Well said.

Boerseun 11/26/2008 11:21:37 AM
Nice letter, but again - Ill rather vote for someone with no policies than for the corrupt anc, voting for COPS is the only way to get rid of Zuma and Malema. The thing is, I cannot see that anyone can be worse than the ANC so you can say what you like about COPS but the fact remains it will be a better change for our country. Viva COPS!!!

Ginger 11/26/2008 11:22:37 AM
How can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving. All politicians lie and try to make the other side look bad to take the limelight off the fact they have sat on their backsides raking in huge salaries while doing nothing but having committees and eating huge meals. Anybody who expects more from them is living in a dream world. The best we can really hope for is ones who will delegate subordinates to do some work instead of indulging in corruption.

Grant 11/26/2008 11:22:51 AM
What a silly article, not sure what your point it chap - I think the ANC and it's followers are getting a bit nervous!? Take your time COPE, we are waiting patiently for your policies which we understand don't happen overnight - and anything you implement has to be more, or better than the ANC's lack of delivery in EVERY sector!

Malo 11/26/2008 11:24:28 AM
dont be too angry. Take a deep breath. I mean really why should you if things are the way you describe them in your letter. Unless you Zuma supporters are frightened by COPE. Viva COPE VIVA

NorthernExposure 11/26/2008 11:25:10 AM
tell everybody else what they need to do? Maybe the ANC should start looking at what they need to do to ensure that COPE does not take away power from them.

Dave 11/26/2008 11:29:55 AM
Luther you clearly do not know what you are talking about - Cope is still agreeing their policies and this is what they are obviously meeting about. At least when their youth league make misguided comments they are immediately rebuked. Lekota had an excelled interview on HARDtalk last night I hope the wider population of South Africans get the opportunity to see it.

Lotus 11/26/2008 11:31:19 AM
Seems to me Luther that the ANC holds meetings to repeat the same old insults against Cope - namely that they are snakes and donkeys. Actually i wish that ZuMalema would make up their minds - is Cope the snake or the skin that has been shed by the snake? At least Cope 'crafts' new insults, the public does get tired of the same old same o.

Ntokozo 11/26/2008 11:37:47 AM
Man, what are you trying to say with this letter? Would you please re-draft it and get someone to critique it before you send it for publishing. It is incoherent, incomprehensible, wishy-washy and shallow. I am all for robust debate but not this nonsense. Nx!

M 11/26/2008 11:39:55 AM
That's rich coming from an ANC supporter. You are just afraid that you will lose your "precious" ANC votes to a party like COPE.Since when do you, Mr. Bebelo decide for the masses how democracy has to work? Who's controlling now? Eh?

Potsotso 11/26/2008 11:40:28 AM
Everyday is Shikota, ANC, ANC Shikota. I wish we could just shut up and vote when the time comes. No amount of talking is going to win votes for a particular party. No amount of critisism of the one party will make me vote or not vote for the other party, because i have a mind of my own, i am educated, i know what i want and my vote is my secret.

WhiPnTickle 11/26/2008 11:41:08 AM
shut up

fuzzy 11/26/2008 11:46:43 AM
Gees Luther, do you really expect a reply to your poorly worded article. Cope must keep quiet - so much for polical freedom. I seem to remember that it was zuma and malema who started with the similes of snake and dog etc. Must they keep quiet too?

Mandla 11/26/2008 11:57:59 AM
excellent letter. The leaders that are resigning from the ANC to SHikota Party are those that does not stand a chance of retaining their jobs after the elections. It is not a mass resignation as they would like us to believe. We still have a lot of capable leaders.

KyleAssassin 11/26/2008 11:58:16 AM
My sentiments, exactly what the ANC are, a bunch of clowns, what policies do they actually enforce. ANC supporters are just a bunch of sheep!

Ganza 11/26/2008 12:01:46 PM
Zuma is the cause of the splinter group, but somehow nobody in the ANC has the courage to say so. So the only way to say it is to leave the ruling party. Clearly Zuma and Malema is greater than the party. The logical thing would be that Zuma goes to trial, proves his innocense and then become president. Seems to me Ubuntu is to blame: 1 - I cannot tell my cadre the truth because it will insult him. 2- I cannot hold my cadre accountable because he will feel insulted. etc.

Lisa M 11/26/2008 12:04:18 PM
What exactly have the ANC done in the past 14 years to better the lives of the people? Is a state of fear for your life an improvement? I think not!

John 11/26/2008 12:04:40 PM
Is it not nice to sit back and watch how the supporters of the current useless and corrupt ruling party argues with the soon to be useless and corrupt opposition ?

Richard Hipkin 11/26/2008 12:06:51 PM
COPE has apologized that's why, they did so unconditionally. Let's just let it be now, the right thing has been done about it.

M 11/26/2008 12:08:14 PM
Whats there to tarnish? He does a sterling job himself, he doesn't need enemies.

M 11/26/2008 12:10:11 PM
You (and your party, the ANC) must be really scared to stoop so low. Are your parties politics that dirty? Your letter speaks volumes.

Isaac 11/26/2008 12:10:31 PM
Shikota was formed because partly, recall of Thabo Mbeki. I'd like to know their position on ABUSE OF STATE RESOURCES? Position on the matter of SUSPENDED NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER? Position on ARMS DEAL? Their position on HIV/AIDS, or the same old beetroot and garlic just like their former head for which they formed to protest against his removal? Their position on ELECTRICITY DEBACLE? OK, dismantling of SCORPIONS? Please I'd like to know...

Mart 11/26/2008 12:12:08 PM
"power mongers", but ANC wants to rule till Jesus comes? "Progressive thinking people" haha, do you see yourself as one? And one last thing, what about all the ANC insults? Anyway, i just wasted time typing this, doubt if the light will come on......

M 11/26/2008 12:12:28 PM
Yes and who trashed those values so hard fought for? The ANC and its henchmen

boetie 11/26/2008 12:19:27 PM
Democratic society... anybody and everybody are allowed to voice their opinion... Even "these power mongers, wishing to hold on to power for ever clowns."

ps 11/26/2008 12:21:48 PM
The ANC meets and talks about bettering the lives of "the people" but when it comes to action, they steal from "the people" (the arms deal and travelgate are a good examples of wholsale theft by the ANC), they cause unnecessary suffering and death (the brainless AIDS policy and delayed ARV rollouts followed by Mbeki and Manto adequately illustrate this point - anyone responsible for the death of more than 300 000 people should be sitting behind bars, not in government). the list goes on....

Purviss 11/26/2008 12:24:40 PM
COPE is probably not the answer to our problems in this country. However, we don't know that yet. The ANC has already proven that they are not the answer to the country's problems. So Luther, we don't need to hear from the ANC anymore as we know the rubbish that they spew, and therefore I want to hear what COPE and the DA have to say.

Nkosikhona 11/26/2008 12:25:55 PM
Those who want to join COPE go to www.congressofthepeople.org.za & download membership forms.

Sean 11/26/2008 12:31:01 PM
Why should COPE form policies? As it stands now, they could hardly do worse than the ANC who HAVE policies. They never bothered implemnting them anyway.

Leumas 11/26/2008 12:32:53 PM
Agh Shame Luther. Policies will not get us anyware. It is the character and determination of leadership that makes things happen. And is that in place? Just consider the delivery of services to our people, the crime situation, corruption, the time it takes for the justice system to get into gear, our police services, and answer the question yourself. We have the policies in place but not the leadership - Leumas

chipper chap 11/26/2008 12:35:41 PM
Luther, dont stress about COPE for now as there are enough clowns around, all of which can be found in the ANC!

An objective view 11/26/2008 12:35:59 PM
If you look at what is said, and how, ANY new thought could only be better. COPE will leave the petties like getting rid of the SPRIBGBOK and concentrate on real problem issues, like corruption and HATE??

Sven Gohre 11/26/2008 12:38:29 PM
Enough already. This continual carping of ANC comrades against a party that they have said is not a threat, so why oh why is there an attack on them daily? Who cares what COPE is doing about its policy stance, as it is only formally launching as a political party on the 16 December, or has that changed? One would presume that the parties manifesto and policy direction will be launched at the same time. So lets wait until it official launch before saying they have no policies.

kamawa 11/26/2008 12:45:18 PM
Has become the order of the politics today we see it from all corners including the news24 users as well, some potray themselves as saints who don't make mistakes. But its sad that now cope has restored to name calling now im wondering which constitution are they going to defend.maybe we will find out after they are launched.bt for a girl to call a man old to be her father such names really shows how low she can stoop coz of seeking fame all in the name of politics.bt u r forgiven young girl.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 11/26/2008 12:48:21 PM
"Far from being taken seriously". YOU KNOW what the BIG problem is? Black South Africans PURELY voting for 'something' the ANC 'had a part in' 20 years ago. The ANC can (and is busy) RUNNING the country into the ground, but you IDIOTS, will ALWAYS vote ANC. Grow up, become mature, LEARN what this 'democracy' means, GROW out of your OLD Zulu monarchical traditions. In "democracy", we dont serve the king, he serves us.

bob 11/26/2008 12:48:29 PM
When will ANC supporters realise that it's not a crime to have a different point of view. You guys should stop being militant robots and start thinking. Democracy isn't about killing and intimidating everybody that has a different opinion. Hush now and go vote for who you want without jumping up and down like a poodle every time the oposition opens its mouth.

byron 11/26/2008 12:49:14 PM
well clearly the author is one of those typical blinded anc loyalists, even though the ANC has been proved time after time ro be riddled with corruption . and as for calling zuma a rapist , well lets call a spade a spade .

manamzo 11/26/2008 12:49:21 PM
What a useless article. It is clear that you are the real clown if you cant see that ANC is full of power mongers. If you analysed the situation well you will learn that actually the existence of Cope was not due to policy difference but to defend democracy which leaders of ANC want to destroy. How do they defend their resolution of disbanding the DSO. If ANC focused its energy on healing the rift it had after Polokwane rather roughly pushing those who didnt vote for current leadersship.

Mangalani 11/26/2008 12:56:02 PM
I am amazed that black people take Cope seriously. Some of us are aware that Cope is a creation of liberal Media to dent the ANC. The plan was hatchet for DA and Cope to form coalition after next year elections. Policies? These people were in power for over 15 years and brought us Zimbabwe, Dr Beetroot, Khutsong etc.702 and Cope Talk are the stakeholders together with Sophie Mokoena (SABC). Mluleki is right to request for a senior position because of his support base. Poor Africans!

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 11/26/2008 12:56:11 PM
"The masses decide and vote" - You mean at Polokwane where 300 ANC members voted Zuma in power? 300 people IS NOT 40 MILLION SOUTH AFRICANS. Also, One of the wcape anc members took a R150,000 bribe to vote for Zuma. YOU DONT KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD 'DEMOCRACY'. Go back to school you idiot.

ConfuseUs 11/26/2008 12:58:26 PM
The ANC meets to talk ... etc. Thats all they do big guy, is TALK. If there was any sign of actual delivery then we would not be in this sh#t, yes?. Since the passing of Joe Slovo - no houses. No new schools, decrepid hospitals. Talk, talk, talk. Time for some ACTION china. Mebbe Shikota wil ldeliver, mebbe not, but their promises are as good as the empty ones from the ANC. Wake up, your policies are cold!!!!!

nthatuwa 11/26/2008 1:02:20 PM
You fall alright.

Eric 11/26/2008 1:12:48 PM
COPE needs policies before the rest of us can conclude that they offer an alternative to the disasterous ANC. I suggest that readers consider the DA which has lots of very good policies and are running the only successful city in SA - Cape Town. What is truly scary is that everyone expects the ANC to romp to victory yet again - on the back of a track record consisting of the destruction of the education system, health system, public security, electricity, roads, public honesty, etc etc etc etc

Karen 11/26/2008 1:16:30 PM
We don't know which party is the answer to the problems in this country - COPE could be it. What DO know is that the ANC is DEFINITELY NOT the answer to solving the problems. All they seem good at, is creating more problems. Time to at least give somebody else a chance, if they prove themselves to be no better than the ANC then they will also be out and we'll try somebody else until we get it right.

J 11/26/2008 1:16:56 PM
Policies stem from an attitude. Cope has the right attitude to take everyone forward, instead of clinging to past non issues and harbouring a corrupt and racist attitude like the ANC.

Angus 11/26/2008 1:22:29 PM
Let us not forget that this poor lady had to leave her place of birth to establish herself some place else to be away from someone she thought of as a father figure and that the judge disgraced our new president elect. Let us not forget that he had unprotected sex with someone young enough to be his daughter. So what message are we sending into the world. Be it as it may, on a weekly basis COPE is accepting factions from all over the political parties, high profile ex ANC members.

M 11/26/2008 1:24:23 PM
It'n no use arguing with Les-Maanda. First and foremost he is and always be a racist. Secondly he points at other parties but doesn't look at his own. How can someone argue with such a person?

M 11/26/2008 1:29:28 PM
It's nice how you blame every ANC failure (didn't Cape Town Kid say the ANC has no leader, its a collective???) has been blamed on those that left the party. Very convenient. Always use the perspective that suites you and if there isn't one, manufacture one or simply react with fear at this apparently "useless" new party.

joaks 11/26/2008 1:35:45 PM
bra, Lekota is power monster he failed to perform his duties while he was minister of defence, premier of free state, what changes he will bring now, what ever policies led by ANC he used to support them, shame COPE

Jayzee 11/26/2008 2:08:52 PM
Listen to e-news channel on DSTV and see how this cope is receiving prominence. It is clear that enews is against the ANC and the black masses. They failed to mention people defecting from the DA and other small parties to cope. They are quick to call unknown people from ANC who defect to cope as senior ANC people. We all know that cope and the DA?s policies are based on criticising the ANC without offering any fundamental alternative. Imagine what would happen if leaders of these clumsy parties/gatherings were to give a one hour speech without mention the ANC. They will be exposed for their stupidity and lack of policy understanding.

Lucky Ralawe 11/26/2008 2:19:58 PM
The ANC has no image left to be tarnished.

Busta 11/26/2008 2:20:46 PM
time to give someone a chance to derail progress is what you mean. The DA and other useless clowns are just there to advance their stupid agendas. I hope my fellow S Africans will see through this idiots.

MJS 11/26/2008 2:23:15 PM
Did we not get a statement from the ANC that Zuma will be in power till Jesus returns??? Clearly you do not understand how democracy actually works - we are seeing it in action now. Once upon a time the ANC also did not have policies etc, back then they were seen as no more than mindless terrorists...see where I'm going with this. STOP ranting and start thinking not just for now, but for your childrens future as well. Will they thank you for mindlessly following the ANC?

Malo 11/26/2008 2:26:17 PM
What I like about COPE is that they are bringing new people new faces. Like Barney Pityana, people who believe in education. Lekota and others are the ones who had the courage to stand up against the ANC. Most people feel the same as them but did not have the courage to challange the ANC.

kamawa 11/26/2008 2:28:45 PM
I see the crucifying crew are mum, about anele and madisha's defaming words over the weekend bt are very much vocal abt malemas kill statements.seems like we tolerate maniacs in this country no wonder y the politicians take us for a granted.thats y no party can take our country forward except when we the ppl of all cultures stand together n lift this country up,not politicians.
