Durban - A 56-year-old Durban cyclist died in a hit and run accident on Durban's NMR Avenue, police said on Monday.

Allan Seagar had been cycling on Sunday morning when a silver VW Polo ploughed into him, police spokesperson Inspector Michael Read said.

Seagar died at the scene.

"The driver of the Polo sped off and is being sought by police," said Read.

A case of culpable homicide was being investigated, police said.
