Tides of change?

by
2009-03-03 08:00

Dear Editor,

Are the tides to change on April 22, or are the waves of corruption, crime and poverty still to come rolling in?

That question is foremost in the minds of many South African citizens at home and abroad.

For those abroad the April election results could be the signal they've been waiting for to come back home and so many ex-patriots want to do just that.

That signal could be, for instance, a stronger opposition and the hint of a coalition opposition. That would be a positive signal not only to those abroad but to those at home who have mostly given up hope and who feel that maybe the tide has finally turned and that this could be the start of the beginning of real change.

However, should the present governing party reach a two-thirds majority or more on April 22, the thinking will be different. Those overseas are likely to remain there and not return.

Those at home who have been thinking of perhaps emigrating, especially those with young children, will start preparing to move.

There would be many too who would want to move but would not be able to and there are also those who are very dedicated and would do whatever it takes to not let South Africa go the Zimbabwe way.

Let us pray that it does not come to this.

April 22 will be a very important time in South Africa's history. The election results will be the true indicator of South Africa's long-term future.

E van Hout

lol the ANC knows there's a lot of dumb ppl who still think whites are evil. And use that to their advantage... So the ANC will certainly win this election. However, thereafter they're going to have trouble... Come 8 yrs time they'll become more radical in their approach in staying in power. Power... it's a funny thing...

Alien Dude 3/3/2009 8:15:48 AM
as the anc do not get the 2/3'rds majority there is hope.ANY democray has to have a viable opposition to keep the checks and balances in place.Unfortunatly the anc have shown their true colours in that they are not accountable to South Africans when they have the majority in parly.

Eles 3/3/2009 8:15:58 AM
I do not doubt for a second that the ANC will win however I do hope it will be without a 2/3 majority as clearly the ruling party need to be kept in line and accountable. It would seem that governance is a circus, a never ending party with people playing at working as opposed to actual work being done evident by conditions and lack of service and results. Helen Zille and co's achievements in CT must really grate them so much so if you recall that they wouldn't even acknowledge her mayor award.

Johan_Claasens 3/3/2009 8:16:47 AM
As South Africans whether you're Pink,Purple,Orange or Gold to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the upcoming elections.Lets Make this country a Democracy again and not go on 'Chaotic Communistic Rampage' to screw up a country that has the potential to be First World...Or If you'd like. You can Vote for 'African National Corruption'...Please People(Esp Die-hard Anc Followers)...Don't think of the past when you Vote.Think for Our Future!

Eles 3/3/2009 8:20:42 AM
What message are we relaying to our children and the world when government is full of criminals and people such as Shabir Shaik are released on early parole (clearly he was the agreed fall out guy and had to be patient)and to top it off he receives interest for ill gotten money? We might as well open all prison doors now why bother????

Mpho 3/3/2009 8:21:48 AM
As Desmond Tutu pointed out over the weekend, they're power hungry ; now they've released Shaik. What next ? Remember - the wheel is turning. Where will JZ & company be in 10 yrs time ? Very simple - vote them out

Thembi 3/3/2009 8:21:51 AM
I agree with the letter totally. I appeal to South Africans black and white, If we vote for the ANC, we have no one else to blame but ourselves. This country is already a banana republic. lets go to the polls in numbers to say no to corruption, no to political arrogance, lets us go to unseat Goliat. Schabir schaik has been releasesd what does that say to us. This a tip of an iceberg. We are still going to see an NPA boss to be appointed. Wake up South Africa you are better than that.

JC 3/3/2009 8:22:11 AM
Well,Shaik is out on parole, no doubt a present from showerhead, so we know for sure corruption is only going to get worse.

SA Male 3/3/2009 8:22:38 AM
If the ANC get 2/3rd's I'll be one of the first out of this country. I'm sure Zimbabwe also told their white farmers "go back to Europe" and now they're begging for handouts. I've got hope for this country, but ZERO hope for the ANC... I won't raise kids here while they have 2/3rd's.

apie 3/3/2009 8:25:05 AM
vote with your head, do what you have to do, but government is not gonna save this country, we're gonna have to do it ourselves. put your head in your vote, and your heart in the country. VIVA SA!

SH 3/3/2009 8:25:57 AM
The ANC will stay in power, nothing, but nothing will change. Crime and corruption will continue at the current high levels. There is nothing to indicate that there will be any improvement.

Eagle 3/3/2009 8:26:22 AM
Spread the word! This is the erection that all non-voters need to wake up. The tides are changing. Vote Vote Vote! I still know to many people who says their vote does not count. THIS YEAR the OPPOSITION NEEDS YOUR VOTE!!! The ANC might still win, but your vote could just be the deciding vote to avoid the 2/3 majority. It might help giving 1 more seat to the opposition. Not all in the ANC is bad, but our democracy needs a healthy opposition to keep a balance. Vote in the 2009 Ellection!

IandI 3/3/2009 8:27:37 AM
The ANC will win, thats becos the masses are convinced that all other parties are evil, colonialists, imperialists and rightwingers. They want the devil they know "with all his corruption", as per young Juju Malema.A-loota continua!1

I had a nice drive to work. The weather is also good. The birds are singing. What a lovely day.

Shimane Mbuyisa 3/3/2009 8:30:12 AM
All of us need to canvass for the opposition amongst those disaffected and those who are clever enough to have their eyes opened around us to ensure that - worst case scenario-the ANC does not get the 2/3rds that has led them to play God with ours and our children's future. They must find it so difficult to govern that they must even sweat to deliver one toilet ("RDP house") to their gullible electorate. That will change the latter's mindsets. Then we must boot them out in 2014 for good

sense 3/3/2009 8:30:30 AM
I think that the opposition parties should focus on getiing more votes from the townships, especially Cope. I dont think enough campaigning is being done to try avoid the 2/3 majority.

Wisdom 3/3/2009 8:31:28 AM
But unfortunately that most of the current voters of the ANC can't read nor see what is happening in Zimbo. The little that can read, those that comment on this forum, still live in the apartheid era, people needs to be punished for their forefathers deeds. The latest intelligent comment I came across is that they don't care if our country becomes like Zimbo as long as they get rid of the whites. I hope those idiots that can read and make such stupid comments are only a hand full.

jen 3/3/2009 8:31:33 AM
I hope that the ANC dont get their 2/3 majority. I accept that they will win, and am resigned to the fact that the tides of corruption and crime are likely to roll in for some time yet. I just hope that the average south african wakes up before it really is too late. I am one of those rare creatures called a taxpayer, and quite happy to pay taxes if that money goes towards education, healthcare and infrastructure. Not to enrich greedy corrupt politicians. I can and will leave if i have to.

Shim 3/3/2009 8:32:39 AM
How the hell can they propose Juju for Parliament? It clearly shows that unless something drastic happens, we are going to experience 5 years of hell under the Kangaman's rule. The future is too ghast to contemplate. Let's all go out and vote. Fetch the sick from the beds and ensure that Zuma goes to retire and spend time with the wives he has been collecting

nigel 3/3/2009 8:32:46 AM
An opposition coalition would be fantastic...for example between the DA and COPE or the DA and the IFP. WE MUST STOP THE ANC GETTING THE 2/3rds AT ALL COSTS, this is absolutely key to this countries future. The ANC is targeting the new votes (approx 3 mil) to achieve this, we must not be complacent, do everything in you can to help prevent the 2/3rds, it is more critical than we all realise. A 2/3rds majority is disasterous.

Gavin 3/3/2009 8:33:20 AM
Guys, I am nowhere near being an ANC supporter, but I do think that Helen's award is a bit of a Red Herring and not something that deserves the attention it gets. The DA must win it on their merits and not on some obscure award that no one really knows the origin of.

Alien Dude 3/3/2009 8:34:00 AM

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 3/3/2009 8:37:28 AM
Sure, they might win the election, but, the ANC is going to have an uphill battle. 15k jobs lost this month, and ALOT more to follow. Food prices not going to drop, unemployment to increase. And the 'people on the ground', dont follow news, dont know about the economic crisis. Zuma will probably be recalled by his own people before his next term. Thats what you get, for trying to fix 16 years of failures, in 6 months, before the elections.

SIHLE-PY 3/3/2009 8:38:04 AM
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WILL DO, THINK OF THE COUNTRY'S FUTURE. TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE- VOTELA iANC- VOTE ANC- STEM ANC. AS FOR YOU MP3 YOU ARE LOST IN YOUR OWN WORLD JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE VOTE FOR THE ANC AND THAT IS THE MAJORITY BY THE WAY, THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE STUPID. I FOR ONE WILL VOTE ANC AND THATS NO SECRET BUT IM SURE AS HELL NOT DUMB. LET DEMOCRACY TAKE ITS COURSE LET US VOTE FOR WHO WE BELIEVE IS RIGHT.

Al 3/3/2009 8:39:15 AM
Would Pres Mandela have included a Winnie, a Zuma, a Manto, ... on his list of candidates? The release of Shaik is the sign that, yes, the tide has already changed, prematurely. The pressure on Prof Braney Pityana to resign comes from Luthuli house, and is another sign that the Zumaites are flexing their muscles and want EVERY high office to be occupied by someone that can be manipulated. We must humble ourselves as a nation because we will be going through deep waters the next number of years.

Calvin Mkhize 3/3/2009 8:40:14 AM
It is interesting to note that when your kind leaves RSA you make such a noise. However we all know that it is cold out there (Australia, UK etc) because when they return to RSA they do so with their tails between their legs and without making any noise whatsoever. Whether the emigrants return to RSA or not is neither here nor there because the majority of them are blue collar workers. My ANC, my future, my vision, liberator, my party will win by 75% majority, mark my words.

colin 3/3/2009 8:42:56 AM
Lets vote for the VF plus - there is a party with a manifesto whish excludes the needs and development of 80% of the population - how can you run in a national elections on the policy of separate development - this is like going back to the apartheid years - we do not need political parties like the VF plus in our democracy as we need to build a unified country and one nation with the common goal of making this country a success - my view is that the manifesto of the VF plus in racist and it represents a view minority and excludes the masses.

Point Blank 3/3/2009 8:43:52 AM
Trying to convince an ANC supporter not to vote for the ANC is like telling a staunch Christian to become a Hindu. It's not going to happen... The only way for an ANC supporter to change his mind is for either the opposition shows why they better or the non ANC supporters set an example of why the oppostion is better. Yelling, insulting and demeaning each other will not change a mindset but rather entrench it.

CTheB 3/3/2009 8:46:45 AM
You're racist, a coconut, someone's garden boy, a counter-revolutionary or whatever if you don't support the ANC (and there'll be the usual attacks on those who've emigrated). Why bother even asking the question? The propaganda machine is running full-tilt, the statements lacking any logical basis are flying and the promises that won't be fulfilled for years to come are being bandied about.

Zami 3/3/2009 8:49:06 AM
i'm very much disturbed by Helen Zille for being a coward instead of standing up against Kangaman she chose the easy route of just wanting to be a regional leader instead of being a national leader.why choose to be premier instead of president and this shows me she knows that she cant win and if this is the level of opposition we have i'm afraid we still have a long way to go.The ID & DA have already given up on the elections even before voting day and this is not a good sign at all.

SimonP 3/3/2009 8:49:33 AM
Anyone who votes ANC deserves everything they get. Increased murder, rape, corruption, cronyism, poverty, scrounging, disease etc etc. ANC supporters have been lied to but sadly are too stupid to realise it. Anti-corruption? joke of the centurt!!!

omega_red 3/3/2009 8:50:04 AM
I must say, the weather today is exceptionally good, its looking like a perfect day! Didnt hear the birds singing, but I did see people laughing sitting in traffic laughing to Wackhead! A perfect start for today!

Lucky Ralawe 3/3/2009 8:51:08 AM
As an ex-ANC member I express the hope that you know the adage "for evil to triumph ...". I therefore assume that you are going to do something about your complaint and vote against crime and corruption. The time to seat behind electric fences and barricaded high walls ends on 22 April. So go out and vote, and cajole all your relatives and other despondent ones, including those who are overseas, to go and make their mark against the tyranny that the ANC has become

Sello 3/3/2009 8:51:57 AM
The ANC will have a two third majority, but I am more worried that the ANC is still unable to solve the unemployment and crime puzzles. Democracy will eventually amount to nothing if people are hungry and criminals rule. In our rural village we are concerned about this, me and other men are now patrolling the village at nite to protect our wives. My 8 yr old daughter walks 1 hour to school, I now accompany her for safety.

TK 3/3/2009 8:52:33 AM
Those overseas are likely to remain there and not return (PLEASE DON?T COME BACK).Those at home who have been thinking of perhaps immigrating, especially those with young children, will start preparing to move(HURRY UP APRIL 22 IS AROUND THE CORNER, PLEASE LEAVE NOW.). Jacob Zuma will be your president and ANC will be your government.

TK 3/3/2009 9:01:56 AM
Our people are still hungry and few minority people from the west are still living luxury at the expense of our people. Our people from Khayelitsha,Gugulethu e.t.c are living in shacks while the few minority from the west are enjoying the fruits of the past system. Those few (minority from the west) who are currently living overseas please remain there and never come back. And if you are still planning on leaving please hurry up because April 22 is here and JZ will be the president.

Fizz 3/3/2009 9:02:19 AM
I know that there are a whole bunch of atheists out there. Cool, that's your choice. I happen to be a Christian, because I have come to KNOW that God is real. Anyway, before Mandela was released in 1994 there were hundreds of thousands of Christians praying - in Ellis Park, Cape etc. Over 200 journalists were here awaiting the expected bloodbath when Mandela was released. Instead there was an eerie calm. If you're a believer, pray again that this country won't go to the dogs. No 2/3rds majority.

Point Blank 3/3/2009 9:04:19 AM
Your analysis is wrong, Helen is showing everyone that unlike the ANC she is not in it for the glory and fame. She is a powerful woman with strong determination and if ever the DA wanted to change the mindset of ANC supporters it is by taking the Western Cape and showing you guys just how well the DA can lead. Once that is established then the DA will push for the rest of the country.

Recon the ANC is handling the Zimbabwe situation with the same levels of skill (not!) that they are governing South Africa. Let's face it, the Zimbabwe situation in its present from cannot work. If so, South Africa will suffer under the "new" ANC before they are finally booted out and we have a government for the people and not for ANC "chommies"!

Sello 3/3/2009 9:07:34 AM
Have you not wondered why many ordinary black people continue to vote for the corrupt ANC? They know that ANC is pathetic, but they are stuck between only 2 options: Vote for the corrupt ANC and get bad service delivery, or vote for a white-interests party and be called "monkeys" like you have just done. We all know what option anyone would choose, dont we?

Carl-NZ 3/3/2009 9:07:55 AM
... the more they stay the same. And if democracy could change anything, it would be outlawed. Can you imagine what lengths the ANC will go to if it begins to lose support? I decided not to wait for the election and left SA because I refuse to be ruled by someone like Zuma. Just because the choice might be democratic, does not mean it will be the right one.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 3/3/2009 9:08:09 AM

This is clearly the ANC led goverment that needs to get the blame for this, they need to patrol the evenings not us as citizens! I am sure that this lady will still vote ANC, so in effect she has herself to blame?

Consider the attitude of govt employees, service what is that?

A lot of people also loved Zimbabwe before one party got too much power and drove it into the ground. How are the ANC "not chasing us away"? They condone crime and corruption and are getting more power hungry by the day, so forgive me for not being optimistic about a country that's run by the ANC dictatorship.

SimonP 3/3/2009 9:30:52 AM
The ANC are not bothered by crime in fact they condone it, they have just put forward a list of MPs that includes CONVICTED FRAUDSTERS! Crime to the ANC is acceptable at all levels especially the highest level ie criminals do rule. A vote for ANC is a vote for crime. Democracy...whats that?

Suzie 3/3/2009 9:31:34 AM
But I will also vote for the DA. Test your intelligence if you don't vote for them, consider yourself a mamparra. Shaik out means the ANC is more corrupt that we even believed. The DA is not corrupt and know the word service.

BigGC 3/3/2009 9:31:57 AM
You know, I was flipping through my i-pod on the way home from work yesterday and came across a Talking Heads song that I though was really appropriate for our current political situation ? Could so easily be the ANC?s theme song, don?t you think? For those who know it? sing along? We're on a road to nowhere Come on inside Takin' that ride to nowhere We'll take that ride Feelin' okay this mornin' And you know, We're on the road to paradise Here we go, here we go We're on a ride to nowhere Come on inside Takin' that ride to nowhere We'll take that ride Maybe you wonder where you are I don't care Here is where time is on our side Take you there...take you there We're on a road to nowhere?

"Our people are still hungry and few minority people from the west are still living luxury at the expense of our people." - TK, when will you learn to see things for what they REALLY are?! The MINORITY is not in charge! Do you want US WHITES to feed all the poor?! What about the GOVERNMENT?! Why does the ANC give R300 million to Zimbabwe, but not to your POOR?! The black middle class, is now as big as the WHOLE WHITE MINORITY! What about Zuma?! His laywer fees ALONE could uplift ALL of SA!

Brendon Shields 3/3/2009 9:32:52 AM
the governemnt and continue to whinge about bad service delivery and corruption. Just because our country is in Africa does not mean it has to become another african stinkhole. My vision, my South Africa, South Africans lead.

2/3 does not equal 75% !!!

the ones living in luxury at the expense of the poor are your beloved corrupt thieving ANC crooks.

Alien Dude 3/3/2009 9:34:39 AM
You are so right in that "Our people are still hungry" and "people from Khayelitsha,Gugulethu e.t.c are living in shacks"......so WHY does the government spend BILLIONS on weapons and R100 MILLION on defending ONE man....just think what that money could do for the poor.......

malcolmx 3/3/2009 9:35:06 AM
The impoverished masses are the people who have most to lose if they make a mistake with their vote. The more priviledged few, may take a bit of a knock, but we have the wealth and power to withstand whatever an ANC government throws at us. If the ANC wins the upcoming election, the impoverished majority have only themselves to blame when the ANC builds them roads to nowhere & puts taps within a kilometre of their homes & advertises that they have brought running water to 9 million people.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 3/3/2009 9:35:17 AM
But Sello, instead of voting for the ANC, because you dont like the opposition... Why simply, just dont vote? Alot of ANC supporters dont like Zuma. Solution, just dont vote.

Christian 3/3/2009 9:36:29 AM
Yes lets respect each other, this land is our land, Black, White, Indian or Coloured, we all need each other. To believe that only Blacks or only whites can run this country is silly. To bleieve that only ANC or only FF or only DA have the interrests of the all at heart is silly. I pray that God will spare us war, that God will bless this country with efffective leadership.

You wish Morena. But then again, the ANC's idea of a fair fight is 200 people against 1. Remember Bloedrivier? I think one boer got injured, because his rifle exploded.

You amaze me...have you not followed what happened in Zim?, are you so naive to think that this country does not need skilled (educated) people. To encourage people to leave (black or white) is just idiotic... say something that makes sense. Mkhize...to wish for 75% ANC vote is unbelieveable..do you understand what the word DICTATORSHIP means? Thembi, Shimane, Lucky, Sello well done, you are examples to black South Africans. Encourage your freinds to vote against the ANC.

WILDFIRE 3/3/2009 9:38:19 AM
Vote for change . Vote for something better. Vote for the DA. If you really don't want to vote DA , then I guess IFP , COPE , ACDP is OK. The DA is the party that can truely oppose the ANC , if ithas sufficient support from the public.

Al 3/3/2009 9:38:36 AM
Eagle has changed 22 April for us. It will be the date of SA's general erection, also referred to as Erection Day. Women may stay at home because they will not be taking part in the erections. Only women who are candidates will be involved. They will be chosen, based on the number of erections made for them. Similarly, male candidates will also be erected to office. People who abstain from the process will be known as impotent erectoral citizens.

"Our people are still hungry" and you blame who for this? The goverment of 15 years or the west. This minority from the west, do you mean white africans or foreigners who made money abroad and brought it here? Theres quite a few "struggle credential holders" doing rather well, Tokyo, Cyril...they swapped their shack for Bentleys at YOUR EXPENSE. Vote ANC and you will forever be struggling

a mother in SA 3/3/2009 9:41:30 AM
As so many other mothers in this beautiful country of ours (all races) let us not give up hope for the coming elections. That will be as good as giving up on hope for our children to grow up and live in a fair, safe, and corruption free SA. Where our children can once again play in our streets, and look up to our leaders with respect. Let us continue to pray that the Lord will this country of ours, and lead us on 22 April.

malcolmx 3/3/2009 9:41:54 AM
As a DA supporter, my heart won't break when the ANC inevitably wins the upcoming election. The problem is with the masses. Their hearts will break in such a way that they stop beating because JZ steals all the money that is suppossed to be used to put food on your plates, provide you with jobs etc. I will still drive my new 4X4, on potholed roads. Drink copious amounts of SAB beer, which I can afford & watch Springbok rugby at an upmarket restaurant on weekends. Breaks your heart doesn't it.

thank you for the complement. but regardless of what your narrow mind thinks, it makes no difference to me. you are just a very disillusioned individual who thinks that life revolves around your ass. let me tell you why people vote anc- they are the only progressive party to lead sa- its a fact we dont have opposition because all they are good for is moaning and btching instead of giving people something viable.

"Our people are still hungry" - that is not the fault of whites. Feed your people , man !What the hell is wrong with you ? You can't let your people go hungry and live in shacks !! What the hell is wrong with you and your government? Your government is the one letting you down and it is them you should be angry at. Tell them you want more than a yellow T Shirt.Tell them to create jobs. Tell them to stop stealing our tax money which should go to the poor. Tell Zuma to go to hell.

What change? You mean DA? Ha! I will never throw my vote away like that. Search the posts here and look for a comment posted by one Alien Dude, he is open and honest with his feelings, he calls black people "Monkeys", which is one many whites are afraid to say out there. So, I must vote for people like that? No ways! Cope is the way!

Farakhan 3/3/2009 9:58:19 AM
Well my moaning friends you better start packing because the ANC is going to get the 2/3 again.

eric 3/3/2009 9:59:57 AM
The ANC will do well will rural voters, however many of them have died of AIDS so I see a slight decline there. The urban ANC voters have progressed considerably and they have moved on. They have seen the lack of service delivery, corruption and poverty in the townships. This is where the ANC is going to lose votes to the DA and COPE. Also the more educated black youth in or with tertiary education will not vote ANC. I doubt the ANC will get more 55% - 58%

The Truth 3/3/2009 10:00:35 AM
until I heard their presidential candidate,Bishop Dandala on SABC3 (A supposed "man of the cloth" running for president?!),supporting the continuation of AA policies. Why should I vote for any party that wants to prolong the punishment of myself, my future children and grandchildren for the sins of their forefathers? Helen and the DA will get my vote.

mkabayi 3/3/2009 10:01:19 AM
"That question is foremost in the minds of many South African citizens at home and abroad".You are obviously speaking for the minority.Last time I checked the majority of people in SA are just concerned about their survival;thanks to hundreds of years of colonialism which have ensured that black SAn's were slaves.Go on with yr Afro-pessimism,the ANC & its majority supporters will continue with its project to free blacks and those progressive whites from years of mental slavery.

Thembisile 3/3/2009 10:03:24 AM
Your remarks about other people will not get you anywhere, we need skilled people to build this country and to mentor those that are willing to build this country. We need people from other races to help us in taking our country forward not because they are clever or superior but because together as black and white we can achieve greater things in this country. Come see the mess in Alexandra T/ship, the situation there has deteriorated, and please do not tell that is because of apartheid.

eric 3/3/2009 10:04:15 AM
Zuma is not that popular despite what Malema says. He is seen as a man who slept with an HIV positive woman and then took a shower. He is seen as a corrupt politician who colludes with indian businessmen. And then ofcourse there is the tribal issue. He is not the father figure Mandela was or the gentlemen Mbheki was. I hope Zuma is not our next president.

2/3 rds = 75%, no I understand why you vote ANC forever.....it all makes sence now, if you dont know what percentage 2/3rds is, you its no wonder you dont understand that....2/3rds majority (for any party) = dictatorship + corruption + oppression + poverty + misery. But then again this is complicated mathematics.

JP 3/3/2009 10:07:10 AM
U can vote for whom ever it pleases u it is a free country after all, but anybody voting ANC is just encouraging corruption! And really all coincidence how most ANC leaders are resigning and joining COPE? i have to admit those EX-ANC leaders know what is right for the country and hope they can make the diffrence..and one last thing for crying out..When ever things are not going the ANC way they always blame it on APARTHEID..Wake up and smell the coffee its 2009!

I studied hard at school. I paid for my own university education. I worked hard up to now to be the best at my job. I even worked in the UK for four years on different projects at most of their major companies like EDS, Lloyds TSB, NatWest, Norwich Union, just to name a few. I then came back with all the experience I got from there. I am currently using all of that here. And I still work hard for my money. I don't owe anybody a free ride, because I never got one. And I will vote DA. Not for monkey showerhead Zuma with no education, so he can give my money away to the poor, or use it on his defense. So, there. Happy now?

I have become disillusioned with current ANC after more then 25 years support. The ANC that I once cherished with leaders like Tambu,Sisulu and Mandela has simply disappeared.I now support COPE whom I feel meets my aspirations.I feel that we can prevent the ANC obtaining a 2/3 majority if every opposition supporter convinces at least five undecided or ANC supporters,to vote for the opposition. A united opposition in this election is imperative.

Shaka 3/3/2009 10:18:57 AM
Some of you will get heart attacks over nothing.Stop being hysterical!!Whites looted and mismanaged this country for many years and we are still here. The ANC has done more than what colonialists did for blacks in 300 years. The country was virtually bankrupt when the ANC took over in 1994 & they have done well to manage the country & the economy.Don't over exaggerate some of its weaknesses.NP politicians were no angels. They committed some of the worst corruption & atrocities.Get a life!!

Any "positive" thinking is immediately down the drain once the poor whitey has been robbed ,, driven over , raped , assaulted , his car's window thrown out by some taxi mob. How positive would you like us to be ??

Point Blank 3/3/2009 10:45:56 AM
I agree to a certain extent but to pretend that Black people were innocent in the past is foolish. This country was built on violence and oppression from white on white to black on black to black on white and white on black. To say black people were always the victim may just show your lack of historical facts.

Sello2 3/3/2009 10:46:36 AM
Qualified Blacks in this country, particularly Africans and Coloureds are being deliberately sidelined from key positions by the private sector in preference for Whites with a mere std 8 or even less. People blockade roads, go out on marches and complain vociferously about lack of service delivery. If these same people place their X against the name of the party that is failing to deliver on a regular basis to place them back in positions of power then they relinquish their right to rail against future lack of delivery. I'd like to see this happen in future.

Lulubelle 3/3/2009 11:53:13 AM
Stop trading insults. There are many intelligent people who are uneducated based on the current governments education policies. Why do education standards keep on slipping despite policies such as free education, OBE etc? The present govt knows, just like the previous regime did, that to keep folk poorly educated means they will not be able to reason with their heads when it comes to election time and will place their cross where they are told to. So, he's out of Jail, after serving 2 years in a hospital bed, of a 15 year sentence. Sure, he's an ex-ANC struggler. Does that mean, we can let Gordon Brown (Fidentia) out of prison as well? Ah, or was the Shabir thing a stunt to make JZ less innocent?

I'm disturbed by the anti-ANC people, calling ANC voters stupid. Who told you are wise cause u going to vote for an opposition? I think as a matter of respect to other people as well as our constitutional rights, go out on 22/04/09 & vote for ur prefered party period! Let us advocate independance & respect for one another in order for this beautiful SA to prosper. Some of us are previledged to even be able to interact in this forums, but we should be more constructive than disrespecting other plp
