ASA and our day of shame

by George Annandale
2009-11-06 07:18

Wonderful, with ASA having finally apologised for the injustice done to Caster Semenya and the country, Leonard Chuene can resign, note - not fired and life can go on. The minister of women, children and everything except men, does not have to change the charter of the UN anymore, Julius Malema can find another liar to support and kill for, and Jacob Zuma can once again look the President of the IAAF in the eye - a proud-leader-kind-of look.

The fact that, under the capable leadership of Julius Malema ably supported by Winnie Mandela, Khompela and Stofile made the proud - centre of the universe, South Africa and it's people - look like the fools, is of no consequence.

The defenders of Chuene will no doubt be raised to hero status by the ANC spin-doctors, who having recognised the writing on the wall, set about doing damage control by forming a "support committee" believing, rightfully, that the fools will buy their story and accept that the ANC occupied the high ground all along.

There will be no apologies from the "Welcoming Committee", who; despite irrevocable evidence that something was amiss , deliberately and wantonly used this debacle to polarise a nation; all in the interest of their devious political agendas - as is customary, if you cannot justify your position on the grounds of right and wrong, play the race card.

Chuene and his board will rightfully carry the can but their supporters in the ANC remember Chuene's assertion that he consulted a political leader will quietly walk away. Komphela, Stofile and Chuene will, very likely deny that the apology constitutes an admission of culpability.

As for Malema's role and his defence of Chuene and his lying - I suppose it is just another part of the young Malema boy's path to adulthood as outlined so often by uncle Gwede.

The whole lot of them are clowns running the circus called South Africa. The African National Circus will never admit when they did something wrong, always shift the blame. When people come to the world cup next year and are massacred in their thousands, who will the clowns blame?? They are all fools. Hope they all die!!!

Alibaba 11/6/2009 7:40:27 AM
This should be fun to watch...

Eles 11/6/2009 7:47:02 AM
No doubt he will walk away with a generous golden handshake once again tax payers money been wasted on incompetence. Bet Leonard couldn't jog 200 metres if he tried. When oh when will this government appoint credible people into positions. I lost respect for ANC stating that JM is a future leader? What on earth are they smoking look north to the rest of Africa to see what state SA would soon be in with such a backward racist at the helm.

wayne 11/6/2009 7:47:11 AM
LOL!!!! we all knew this day was comming and now Malema is on a mission to blame the white man for Eskom too after he blamed us for this and FAILED!!!

MikeF 11/6/2009 7:47:26 AM
I hope this very embarassing episode will present us, our leaders and our politicians, and Julius, with the opportunity for lessons learnt.
1. Don't accept everything a comrade sells you as fact. First investigate.
2. Don't jump onto makeshift platforms with phoney loudhailers to expose your ignorance of the rules of sport, or other matters.
3. Don't sacrifice the truth on the altar of comeradeship and racial solidarity.
4. Please engage the brain before shooting from the lip.
5. South African sport is a National asset. It doesn't belong to those who feel all powerfull and almighty once they are voted into office.
5. Serving your Country is a great opportunity for stewardship, managing your portfolio for the benefit of those whom you are chosen to serve.

AMF 11/6/2009 7:47:49 AM
Apart from what these people did to Caster, they have accused the people of SA, IAAF and
more of being Racists. Surely they should be called to answer for this too?

cindy 11/6/2009 7:56:51 AM
i for one am still waiting for an apology re the racist statements made by Chuene et al. won't hold my breath though, that might kill me! thankfully, this whole sorry saga will now come to an end, unfortunately doesn't change the fact that caster's life has been destroyed by a bunch of idiotic "leaders"

MarkH 11/6/2009 7:59:02 AM
We've seen this same farce happen numerous times now and the amazing thing is that nobody ever gets fired, nobody ever takes responsibility and nobody ever solves the problem. Naturally the money involved - and there's always money involved - also never gets found, the cadre responsible gets moved sideways until the heat dies down, we SAfricans look like fools and the circus continues.
The same applies with ASA, Eskom, Transnet, SAA, SABC and the various government departments which talk, waste, spend recklessly and in the end provide zilch of real value.
We're way, way past a joke and are now turning into a global embarrasment.

TC 11/6/2009 7:59:09 AM
Learn this lesson if you have not learnt it yet: Nowadays you can believe nothing! Rememeber the denials, finger pointing, lies, and the crazy support from politicians. But, in the end TRUTH shall prevail. ASA has harmed Sumenya on the altar of lies and personal interest.

P.Didly Doo 11/6/2009 8:01:26 AM
Where are the black chirpies? Dont forget to blame the "He was forced to apologize because he is black!!" LOL...you guys use that line when your intellect is shown...Having a BEE job does not make you more inteligent, just a Puppet for the white man!

Sinudeity 11/6/2009 8:04:54 AM
You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Alibaba 11/6/2009 8:08:38 AM
I see the IAAF have now stopped commenting on anything coming from SA or happening in SA about this whole debacle - looks like they are fast learners...:-) I don't think we realise the damage this has done internationally yet.

nigel 11/6/2009 8:10:12 AM
They will not apologize to the people of SA, because an apology would require acceptance of responsibility, something that the leaders of SA are not yet familiar with. The most notable Idi0t of the lot is "do you know who I am", Inkwenke Malema, who is nothing short of an arrogant, ignorant, racist, that is the biggest threat to the country since Hendrik Verwoed.

@julius 11/6/2009 8:11:45 AM
Now Julius must also apologise for his racist comments

POST MY COMMENTS PLEASE 11/6/2009 8:12:05 AM
Look where his greed for the gold medal got him, and to still accuse the country of being racist, every person was accused accept the deceiver himself...when will the apologies come from Cool & The Gang who blamed every person for being jealous of Semenya because of being black, yet they failed to understand the debacle affected the whole of South Africa, nobody laughed or ridiculed Semenya when the story broke, instead of Chuene hanging his head in shame all he did was push blame onto every other person but himself....he needs to apologise to the nation as well....

D Domingo 11/6/2009 8:19:21 AM
The problem with the current set up is that these idiots are reactive. How on earth can can there be so many things going wrong in so many diff areas within government? And then the blame gets shifted!!! I just read an article on BBC about this saga and we all know how the british can sationalise but as reading the report, all I could do was agree and hang my head in shame! We are the laughing stock and yet not all of us are responsible but a couple of incompentent arses!

michael 11/6/2009 8:19:56 AM
This was a terrible incident - but I didn't realise that the world had come to an end!!!!!!

Lee 11/6/2009 8:28:04 AM
What about Caster? This poor young woman has suffered terribly throughout this saga. My heart goes out to her ... I hope we see Chuene, Malema and whoever else lining up to apologise to her - but even then, the damage has been done. Caster's life is in tatters because of these people and they will just walk away from this ...

SAboer 11/6/2009 8:28:49 AM
JULIUS MAL EMA IS THE WORST LOOKING AFRICAN MAN I'VE EVER SEEN...HA HA HA HA

Spiderman @ LSA 11/6/2009 8:29:13 AM
No, they don't look for some one to blame anymore.

It is easy, first you deny and when you get caught, you apologise, get a golden handshake and get promoted!

Look at the ancyl FS and Jansen saga. What a joke, denying he did not say that Jansen should be shot! He should be cuffed to a chair and watch the video 1 million times, and then write on the black board: "I did say that!" Oops, I doubt whether any of their leaders can read or write?

Sorry, nearly forgot the maths!

GeorGe 11/6/2009 8:33:12 AM
It is becoming the norm in this country for the powers that be to just brush their incompetence under the carpet or say sorry and we all live happily ever after. Yet, people, we get the likes of Poliodonkey and Halfwit on this column singing their praises.
And so it goes . . . where to no-one knows! BUT, I can hazzard a guess!

Nicholas 11/6/2009 8:34:56 AM
Since we do not need to speculate that the ANC will apologize for anything, the only question that remains is to which even-higher paying ANC-sponsored job will Chuene be deployed in say 6-12 months?

SimonP 11/6/2009 8:38:21 AM
Some of us knew Chuene was lying and posted the FACTS here, some blindly followed the liar refusing to blame the cadre, where are they now? Probably busily consulting their ANC excuse manual to manifest another conspiracy theory to excuse their comrades.
What will Julius say? Apology to white people? Doubt it.

sobeit 11/6/2009 8:42:12 AM
This saga illustrates the total incompetence of the ANC and its "cadres" in all spheres. Bunch of buffoons, the lot of them, who are dragging SA back to the stoneage while wearing Armani suits and driving BMW's at tazpayers expense while their own people are destitute.

Mtima 11/6/2009 8:42:22 AM
Trust the comrades at your peril, this guys can cook lies and if they can't argue they always resolt to either insults or the race card, I was personally puzzled why should I support a liar simply because he is my colour,I think more is yet to come, this is Mzansi were politicians are never wrong even one day

geanann 11/6/2009 8:42:48 AM
We have not seen the end of Malema's nonsense, believe me

Godsell and the ESKOM board will soon learn there is no hour amongst thieves

The Man 11/6/2009 8:43:41 AM
let us all call a spoon a spoon and talk about what really is going on here. There is a coup to oust top ranking black officials spear headed by racists who plan on toppling Mr Chuene and Mr Maroga respectively.Mr Maroga of eskom is going no where and Mr Chuene is going no where.George annandale you are a racist and your articles always stink of racism, try as hard as you all want but Mr Chuene and mr Maroga's jobs a re safe and secure. This sascoc who think they are big deals dont have juristriction to fire Mr Chuene so sascoc must now run back where it came from with the tale between the legs.Amandla, the people's party is here to stay forever and ever untill the universe stops.

IandI 11/6/2009 8:44:22 AM
I challenge Chuene and his committee to bet their golden handshakes/pension in a 800m race against Caster- winner takes ALL! This would be the best revenge Caster can get against these palookas.

ChapStick 11/6/2009 8:45:35 AM
Just goes to show that the ANC, ASA and all 'comrades' and defenders of said organizations could not negotiate a hot meal to a beggar.

LSA@SAboer 11/6/2009 8:49:17 AM
Lol, looks like evolution did not affect him. He still has his ancestors' primate features. Maybe he is King Kong's son....

Sinudeity @SimonP 11/6/2009 8:50:07 AM
Like we said FROM the beginning, Chuene was lying to cover up his own rear. Blaming white folks to cover up his lies. The truth saw the light.

oral 11/6/2009 8:52:57 AM
Where is Julius now and all his comrades? Will he apollogise for blaming the white people and the shouting racism? I think not, the fact that he had the nerve to use the whole thing as a poloitcal platform was pathetic and I am so glad it blew up right in his face ...... but lets see if he is man enough to admit guilt and learn that he really does not know much at all!

THG 11/6/2009 8:54:03 AM
@The Man, what are you smoking, can you not think past your nose. You do have a brain dont you ?

Spiderman 11/6/2009 8:56:10 AM
I know this is not part of this subject, but .....

Does anyone know whether Maroga (Eishkom) is going to get a restraint of trade severance package? Just in case he goes and tells Eskoms opposition all the trade secrets!

Oops, there is no-one else! But watch this space!

Hans 11/6/2009 9:03:16 AM
Let's not make a soap opera or a witch hunt out of this sad affair. Poor Caster needs help to get her life back and hopefully we'll get an ASA management that is there for the future of athletics - and not for their own ego. I ask the media to now please leave this terrible issue alone.

@ The Man 11/6/2009 9:09:13 AM
You wouldnt recognize a coup if it bit you on the behind, same as you don't know what incompetence is.

SimonP@The Man 11/6/2009 9:14:30 AM
the fcats are there for EVERYONE to see, but no you invent nonsense to justify your own existence. Are you Julius Malema?
The world looks on and laughs at SA because of people like you.

Cynical 11/6/2009 9:15:39 AM
This mess, like the mess at Eskom, the SABC and in our municipalities, should surprise nobody in this Third World paradise of ours. I'm just waiting to see what a mess they are going to make of the World Cup next year. Luckily I'll be outta here by then.

Spiderman @ The Man (Thsepo) 11/6/2009 9:20:09 AM
Dude, you have a serious reading problem (perhaps ADD?)! I strongly recommend extra classes after work.

"Cheune and the ASA board will meet on Friday to discuss their legal options but SASCOC’s Gideon Sam says he has the Sports Act on his side.

“Enquire into the administrative and or financial affairs of members, Athletics South Africa is our member, suspend, fine and terminate the membership of any individual affiliated,” says Sam.

James 11/6/2009 9:21:37 AM
I too am waiting for the apology about the racist remarks made by: ASA, Malema, Winnie, Blacks on this poll. I suppose it will take a long time.

Deon 11/6/2009 9:23:02 AM
ASA is NOT to blame - the ANC is to blame!
The ANC put ASA under so much pressure to turn the victory parade into a black celebration that they didn't know how to handle the situation under this political pressure. Like all things the ANC put the filthy paws on, it once again backfired in their faces, the blame is shifted and people are required to resign. The same goes for ESCOM, SABC, etc!! etc!! etc!!

Oom Piet 11/6/2009 9:23:57 AM
Good moaning SA. Let's use this Friday moaning. Everything is falling apart. We are so miserable, and all we can do is look forward to waking up alive only to join another moaning session. Let's not even imagine one feel good factor, like the fact that our transport infrastructure is being developed, we no longer experience blackouts, despite the recession, some of us still have jobs, blah, blah, blah.

Jack 11/6/2009 9:24:03 AM
Dead horse, stop flogging it....the articles on this site are becoming ever more stale...yawn...actually this George chap has raised this issue before?
I am going to read soemwhere else...bye

Khalipha 11/6/2009 9:26:40 AM
@ The Man: DO NOT BE SILLY!! My word, I have never read anything more foolish in my life! "Amandla, the people's party is here to stay forever and ever untill the universe stops. " MY WORD!! That would be a dictatorship now... is that what you want? Dictatorship and greed for power is what has bought the African continent to its knees!

@ The Man 11/6/2009 9:31:17 AM
I agree fully with you my man. Why suspend Chuene with some of his board members and single out Maroga alone leaving his equally incompetent and backstabbing board members(predominantly white)behind. You guys must be objective when you comment here and stop looking at things through the racial eye. You are all doomed and boring. Wonder why still stuck in this country if nothing is good enough about it.

@The Man 11/6/2009 9:32:43 AM
You are hilarious, everytime the ANC or one of its members screws up you blame white racists. When the actual racists are you two.
You and Julius should do stan-up comedy.

The Big Rip@Khalipa@The Man 11/6/2009 9:42:25 AM
When he says the ANC will rule until the universe stops, he means when the universe is swallowed up in the Big Rip.

Bongani 11/6/2009 9:44:34 AM
***yawn***

Borinnnnnnnnnnnnnnng!!

George, are you a pensioner with too much time on your hands? How about getting yourself a dozen of black labels for every single boring day of your life, sitting on a rocking chair and watching the sun rise and set instead of flogging the dead horse as Jack says?

And before anyone accuses me of anything after merely looking at my name, I also call for Chuene's head, but am not going to subject myself to a cruel and unusual punishment of recycled moaning by George.

Astelavista baby! I'll visit other sites instead of join the moaning session

Gary 11/6/2009 9:47:13 AM
The silence from Zizo, Thseppo, Polydonkey etc is absolutely deafening! NOthing more needs to be sais really

Proud South African to James and Cynical 11/6/2009 9:53:26 AM
James, you can wait until the cow come home.

Cynical, everyone here can read. Do you have to keep repeating your threat to leave? Just flipping go for crying out loud. Do you read anyone saying you should not go? Flipping go, and make sure you shovel snow in Canada and don't look over your shoulder to SA. The rest of us can carry on moaning while others do their best to keep the country from falling apart

Gpurscreepers 11/6/2009 9:53:35 AM
The Man- What do you think is more likely- Chuene is a lying sack of poo, or there is an elaborate plot by some group of racists to oust the board of ASA in attempt at world domination?

Why do you want to defend someone who was caught lying to all of us, including you?

As mildly humorous as your delusionally paranoid denial are I'm getting a bit tired of trying to explain blatant common sense to you and your comrades.
You can call a spoon a spoon, I'll call a spade a spade and you a tool.

@ the "man" 11/6/2009 10:00:54 AM
let me guess, you only get to eat with a spoon still??? A fork would be too complicated and dangerous for you to handle. Also you only call yourself "the man" once you become a man, in the mean time feel free to use words like "idiot" "women" "child", till then please grow a pair of balls to admit when you are wrong.

POST MY COMMENTS PLEASE 11/6/2009 10:02:46 AM
I am going to write a book on all of this lmao!!!!!!

Mike 11/6/2009 10:35:35 AM
HaHaHaHaHaHa.......you are the laughing stock of the world this morning SA. From the circus master Leonard Chuene, to his supporting cast of clowns including Winnie "the pooh" Mandela,Julius Malema and the ASA board.ASA has lost it's credibility after this, and the IAAF will say " TOLD YOU SO". It's kid's stuff really, and when Malema is involved, you know it's always going to smell.

Onke 11/6/2009 10:39:55 AM
Okay guys it's over now get on with your miserable lives .

hans 11/6/2009 10:58:52 AM
They are all a bunch of fraudulant cheats and pricks, Malema is King Prick.

Original Cracker 11/6/2009 11:04:51 AM
@The Man....get yourself checked. You may yet turn out to be a woman!!

Gpurscreepers 11/6/2009 11:08:37 AM
Going slightly off topic here but a few days ago someone posted a link to www.zasucks.com

Some of you may be familiar with Uhuru Guru who writes on that site. He is the guy who uploaded those horrific pics of murder victims. The cops raided his house and arrested him on some BS charge from 1993. read about it on zasucks or mybroadband.

Thuli 11/6/2009 11:15:41 AM
...Lucky Rhalawe, what a refreshing thought...especially for a tiring topic like this....

@ the manboob 11/6/2009 12:22:42 PM
you are so right, why would anyone wanted to replace the head of the ASA and Eskom, they are both doing such a sterling job for SA, it must be a racist conspiracy! frigging nipple!

Mars 11/6/2009 12:33:49 PM
Whaa ha ha ha!! Good letter George! Very amusing and true. Also funny all the comments about this topic being boring etc. Obviously coming from gravy train, stupid ANC supporters. Mal-ema, Chuene and fellow clowns owe EVRYBODY in this country an apolgy.

JB 11/6/2009 11:53:27 PM
lmao! The Man...in the moon. Now thats what I call humour! Best you go back to your village...they're missing their idiot.

JM 11/8/2009 1:21:32 PM
Guys, we can write our opinions and views on all these issues. The facts are that a) they will not be able to read or understand what we mean, b)they do not particularly care as they run the country and do whatever they want, even today the son of a minister, got arrested for drunken driving and immediately pulled a malela stand, "do you know with whom are you talking to?" and c)they are safe as the BIG BOSS is just as criminal as them so they safe...so we must stop giving our opinion because no one cares..

the biggist looser is? 11/8/2009 2:20:05 PM
Lee and Cindy above: "spot on". Unfortunately the biggest looser is Semenya. No more appearance fees, no more sponsorships, no more prize money! Shocking... who is going to make good here? Julius, Winnie ("stuff them all and where is she now"), Chuene? EINA!!!!!

E van Hout 11/8/2009 10:35:59 PM
There is another word that is not found in the Pedi dictionary: "Apology"
