Johannesburg - While 2008 was a difficult year, 2009 should bring hope to the people of SA, the African National Congress Youth League said in its New Year's message late on Wednesday.
The ANCYL predicted that many progressive and developmental programmes would take place in 2009.
This included a 75% victory by the ruling ANC in the general elections.
"The ANCYL will be at the forefront to ensure that this becomes a reality."
The league also foresaw the establishment of a "more developmental and effective National Youth Development Agency", which would respond to the needs and aspirations of young people.
There would be an intensification of the teaching and learning campaign within the context of prioritized education by the incoming ANC-led administration, the league said.
Turning to health, the league said that progress would be made in the provision of quality and sustainable healthcare to all the people of South Africa.
It added that the development of sports, recreation and arts facilities and infrastructure in all communities would be realised.
The ANCYL also predicted increased preparedness by all South Africans - particularly youth - to successfully host the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
"The ANCYL will be at the forefront to ensure that these focused and developmental programmes and objectives become a reality in 2009."
