Malema misunderstood - ANC

by
2008-11-18 14:08

Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is the victim of "a sustained campaign in the media" and inaccurate media reports that "belittle" him, the ruling party said on Tuesday.

Malema, probably best know for his infamous "kill for Zuma" statements, was misunderstood by the media, the ANC national working committee said in a statement issued after its weekly Monday meeting.

"The NWC discussed what appears to be a sustained campaign in the media to belittle ANC Youth League President Julius Malema, and to position him and the Youth League as being at odds with the policies of the ANC," the NWC said.

"It noted that the media has a tendency to cover comments made by Malema in a selective and often inaccurate manner, ignoring the consistent policy pronouncements of the ANC Youth League."

Zuma rebuke

Malema has been described as a liability to the ANC because of his wild rhetoric.

It started in June when he said the youth league would kill for ANC leader Jacob Zuma. Since then - apparently after ANC leaders rebuked him in private - he has replaced the word "kill" with "eliminate" in similar statements.

Zuma recently told the SABC that he had advised Malema to stop making controversial statements.

Malema's statements had been used as ammunition by the ANC's breakaway party, the Congress of the People, whose leader Mosiuoa Lekota has accused the youth leader of acting in an unconstitutional manner.

More recently, Malema accused Northern Cape premier Dipuo Peters of being "bought" by business.

He also called Cope co-leader Mbhazima Shilowa, the former premier of Gauteng, a "security guard" who had defaulted on child support payments.

"The ANC will continue to engage in a frank manner with the leadership of the ANC Youth League to provide political support and guidance, so that the league functions as an effective training ground for a new generation of cadres," the ANC said.

What a croc of sh!t honestly. How dumb do these people think we are. I listened to him with my own two ears on Carte Blanche. He is a pathetic excuse for a South African. It is morons like that that give this continent a bad name. How old is he anyway...youth league my a$$

I can bet by this evening there would be a barrage of criticism from the readers suggesting that the ANC is not honest. this is mainly due to bias reporting from the media which sought to position the ANC in bad light. Instead of balanced reporting we are inundated with biased reporting , sometime disregard for newsworthy stories If only SA media can stop taking sides in this heated political contest , people complain that the ANC is destroying our country but they forget the damage made by our media and the skewed reporting

Fanie Gerber 11/18/2008 2:22:28 PM
Why should we or the media do that? He is doing such an excellent job all by himself

Badger 11/18/2008 2:30:36 PM
,,,and in the "youth" league. This is eventually going to back-fire and blow up in the ANC faces. I will just sit quietly and watch with amusement at how this lot destroy each other. Does Ruanda ring a bell, ANYONE ????

For the sake of everyone with ears, the hot hair flowing out of Malema's ignorant mouth needs to be turned off. It seems the mans mouth and brain are not connected and are firing a continuous stream of blanks that opposition parties are turning into real bullets and shooting them back at the ANC. Malema is giving us the impression that his radical sentiments are shared by the ANC youth league and the ANC's guilt through association is easily identifiable.

Benzo 11/18/2008 2:30:58 PM
TV images were not faked, or were they? We have seen enough of the child to not take him seriously but always good for a laugh. Please ANC, don't spoil our fun.

Craig 11/18/2008 2:31:37 PM
Malema is a total nut ball, i would not entrust him with my dogs..The ANC should catch awake up and get rid of him. He is supposed to lead the youth not fill their minds with propaganda and hate, wehave enuff crap in SA. Malema must go

Dries 11/18/2008 2:32:27 PM
Unfortunately for the ANC Malema is well understood, only problem is that South Africans do not wan't a couple of idiots in office "at any price". The ANC must start preparing themselves for the fact that come next years election they will not even be the official opposition with or without their trademark use of violence and intimidation.

JT 11/18/2008 2:33:16 PM
Exactly why I will not vote for the ANC again whilst this buffoon is is part of the circus. Somewhere a village is missing their idiot.

Dee 11/18/2008 2:33:47 PM
he did it again Malema!!!He said he will kill for Zuma and he is killing his own party. I encourage you Malema to keep on talking crap so that more people will leave the ANC, even those who did not have reasons will use Malema as an excuse. Big ups to Malema and his stupidity, he learned from the best (daddy zuma).hahahahahah!!!!

JULIUS HASSHOLE 11/18/2008 2:33:51 PM

sure!! too late to back track on his idiotic comments!

Robert 11/18/2008 2:34:41 PM
Looking at his Scholastic record can be true. What a joke this very senior member is making of the youth of this country.

Dee 11/18/2008 2:34:44 PM

My left testical would be a better public speaker with more brains than him. He is just another idiot in charge of keeping his "buddies" and himself as rich as possible and not doing a single thing for his fellow person. He can't get in the news for doing anything for this country so he has to resort to making controversial statements to get attention.

Glock 22c 11/18/2008 2:36:31 PM
We wont misunderstand him all the time !!

JT 11/18/2008 2:37:04 PM
Somewhere a village is missing an idiot. This response from the ANC and the way they have handled this buffoon is exactly why I will not vote for them again.

henk 11/18/2008 2:37:19 PM
and for years now robert mugabe and thabo mbeki denied that zimbabwe is in a crisis and that it is a plot by the western coutries and the media to be little mugabe! they say denial is the first signs......

Zorro 11/18/2008 2:37:21 PM
When you say and do stupid things, what do you think is going to happen? You see acting like a fool will never make you into a hero. Its the policy of the ANC, We do one thing and say anotherand then it must be true.

Matt 11/18/2008 2:37:56 PM
How on earth could Julius Malema be misunderstood? Everything he says can amount to hate speech and all he is doing is inciting violence. Where is get confused is how he can say the things he does, and then the ANC just explains them away as "misunderstandings"... DISGUSTING!

francois 11/18/2008 2:38:24 PM
The word of a very good black friend of mine - Malema is making fools out of the black people of this country. He is loud, arrogant, confrontational but too stupid to know the damage he causes. And all his ravings against his own people? He is worse than Mugabe.

Lucy, CT 11/18/2008 2:38:29 PM
There is not a single day that I've heard Malema say anything that does not involve controversy and arrogance. The boy is clearly immature and careless I'm still trying to figure out how he got to be president of the ANCYL. He digs his own pit each time he opens his mouth. Is there a perpetual silence pill that can be prescribed to him? that will surely help.

Mike F 11/18/2008 2:40:27 PM
is quite simple. If Julius keeps his mouth shut then all of us will understand him.

Mr Know It All 11/18/2008 2:40:34 PM
ag shame! poor imbecile, "he is probably misunderstood"...... misunderstood my foot, the little monster can not comprehend simple English language basics, BACK TO SCHOOL

Elsabe 11/18/2008 2:40:43 PM
Let Malema keep on saying these things and let the ANC keep on defending him.... it will cost them dearly.... If they only realise how much this young man damage the image of the ANC.... but maybe they think any publicity is good publicity...

GailC 11/18/2008 2:40:45 PM
The ANC can't even be consistent in its own press messages! One minute they admit he is a loose cannon and chastise him then they tell us that and now they say he is misunderstood. You are not going to fool anyone except those who wish to believe out of wilful blindness and hatred of whites or anyone who sees and reads and really does understand the subtexts.

JanMan 11/18/2008 2:40:56 PM
Its not necessary for anyone to belittle him...he hurts his own credibility more than anyone else could ever do. poepol.

Johann 11/18/2008 2:42:56 PM
This statement by the ANC is such bull****. Only when it suites them otherwise they turn a blind eye. If for example another public figure in a public address would ask supporters of the Congress of the People to "kill" or "eliminate" for Mosiuoa Lekota or for that matter supporters of the DA to "kill" or "eliminate" for Helen Zille that would also only be a misunderstanding. YEAH RIGHT. I can already hear the ANC.
