Obama's first year: Have your say

by MyNews24 Editor
2009-11-05 08:34

After an expensive election campaign, Barack Obama was elected as the first black president of the United States on November 4 2008.

All eyes were on the newly elected president after his promises of change during his election campaign.

How do you think he has done in his first year? Do you think he is taking the right steps to help the US recover from its financial crisis? Has he delivered on his promises so far?

Have your say on this topic.

Well...
Troops still in Iran.
Still hasn't closed their detention camp.

Noble ideas, but really he hasn't changed much really. If anything I reckon he didn't really have an idea as to what was needed to be the president, so could honestly promise these things. I guess now that he's in the spot he's in he has a better idea of just how difficult it is to be the president of the US.

Good luck to him for the rest of his term.

Sibu 11/5/2009 8:44:27 AM
What has he done?

Mphatjie Monareng 11/5/2009 8:48:25 AM
He promised change, but I haven't seen any. It's still business-as-usual. He announced to the media that he was closing Guatanamo Bay, but the notorious prison is still reportedly open today. The only notable change in Washington is that the president is skillful in manipulating the media. If needs be, he does a bit of name-dropping here and there: "We love our First Lady, Michelle," he often says. "Sasha and Malia are doing great." "Me and Bo (the so-called First Dog) are the only males in the family." He won't win a second term this guy.

Thabo Molatlheg 11/5/2009 8:53:25 AM
Has there ever been a question like this posted on the internet about previous presidents..Bushes...and all?

Thato 11/5/2009 9:05:27 AM
I don’t know why people are expecting to see miracles with Obama; he’s only human like the rest of us and only a Politian like other Politicians…nothing special about him

@Mphatje Monareng 11/5/2009 9:10:07 AM
Looks like your rose tinted spectacles only extend as far as South Africa. You seem to see what is happening in far off countries but cant see the exact same thing happening in the country you live.

Bandicoot 11/5/2009 9:17:36 AM
Obama is puppet of New World Order , they want to bring about global government and fund this government through carbon tax. He is the same as his predecessor (George Bush). Same devil , different disguise

Maxine Meyer 11/5/2009 9:18:44 AM
i think hes doing a great job... everything takes time! atleast he gives us hope, and in times like these that are upon us... hope is a very powerful thing!

Craig 11/5/2009 9:33:13 AM
People should understand that policies take time to implement. Some of his great policies can't be implemented over night. Let's give him another year or two before we make judgements....

Vovo 11/5/2009 9:35:23 AM
@Robert.. Troops in Iran??? when did this happen?

mp3's mentor 11/5/2009 9:38:40 AM
bandicoot you sound like a loon... whats really scary is that you're on the money and yet everyone is so blind and stupid as to what is happening, too preoccupied with what brangelina and tom cruise are doing, that it'll be too late once they catch a wake up

Charlie 11/5/2009 9:39:09 AM
The Obama Deception, yes he has been doing a good job but not for the people, FOR THE BANKERS.He is part of the an evil skeem that gives jack about the people but money.

Vovo @maxine 11/5/2009 9:39:09 AM
Living on a prayer are we?
I think he is manipulative & useless. Obama should be an actor not a politician.

SimonP@Bandicoot 11/5/2009 9:41:04 AM
Please tell us more, who or what is the New World Order and exactly how would carbon tax fund it.

Limelite 11/5/2009 9:46:04 AM
His popularity has dropped nearly 20 points - from around 70% to +/-50%; the biggest drop by a USA president ever. He's implemented nothing of his election promises. He got voted in by white guilt and now the USA have woken up ( a bit late mind you). Gee, sounds just like it could be SA - apart from the drop in popularity.

ken sudding 11/5/2009 9:55:36 AM
He's just a new ringmaster of the same circus. Regeretfully he resembles one of the clowns. Predictably things have deteriorated according to the NWO scheme. Sorrowfully so many millions like Maxine Meyer "have hope" in another New World Order Puppet - what an Obamanation

Jordan 11/5/2009 10:15:35 AM
@Maxine - why would you need him to give you hope? Hope for WHAT?

Obama did promise a number of things to the US public and I have yet to see this happening. And please don't tell me it takes time to implement these 'changes'. BS man, he's the most powerful man in American at the moment and he can do better...yes he CAN.

loanna 11/5/2009 10:21:14 AM
i will decide about him as soon as he re opens the 9/11 investigation.

Adam 11/5/2009 10:24:18 AM
By taking into account that he inherited a "problem child" left by the previous regime, give him credit for the plans he is putting in place to rectify the f*ckups.

Joe Hero 11/5/2009 10:31:03 AM
@bandicoot, @charlie, @ken sudding. Love the fact that people are waking up to the truth. Everyone else - watch the Obama deception and (most recently) Fall of the republic. Follow sites like wearechange and infowars. Stop being sheep and start thinking for yourselves. Let's stand together and make sure that what's happening in America doesn't happen in South Africa - While you're doing that also research the safety of the "H1N1" Vaccinations! They are coming and will kill you! Search the truth - it will set you free!!

aBIGWAR 11/5/2009 10:40:50 AM
Like all African presidents he has promised plenty and delivered war and mayhem. Stock markets are devastated, business closing, starvation setting in. Oh and we gave him a Nobel Prize, probably cause it was the affirmative thing to do.

Ouklip 11/5/2009 10:50:32 AM
Obama - the ultimate salesman - no delivary. No change in Washington. No leadership. A lot of hot air.
In the US all presidents are measured on their performance on a monthly basis. Obama shows no leadership.

Louis Kriel 11/5/2009 11:11:20 AM
Barack Hussain Obama has fullfilled ZERO/NONE of his campaign promises. He is the biggest threat to the USA and it's people today.

Congress seems to be telling blatant lies to the American People. They said they wouldn't get involved in the motor industry and then proceeded to fire the CEO of General Motors. There is a lot of "behind closed doors" stuff going on with the Obama Administration that should be in the open because it is not security related. Makes one wonder when Pravda, the Russian newspaper, can warn the US that its heading straight into Communism. Obama may go down as one of the worst US Presidents in history if he continues on his current track. The writing is on the wall.

BLACKsoWHAT! 11/5/2009 11:40:01 AM
I honestly could care-less what he's done/will do for America yet I do appreciate that white America gave a non-white person a chance to represent them, which signifies a small death of Nazism. lets face it America is a well OILED war machine that he has to adhere to, i think whatever promises he made were out of naivety.

obronie 11/5/2009 11:50:21 AM
Well he does deliver, the economy is growing at least, while it was busy tanking this time last year. The unemployment is still the result of 8 years of Republican rule. He vowed to close guatanamo within 1 year. Not this year. He was started in January. A lot of the Bush decisions he has reversed and has bring a lot more intelligence into the white house. Is he the messiah, no, is he a superhero, no. However I am sure that within a couple of years time the USA would have played a positive role in world peace, world economy and the environment.

mokgale masha 11/5/2009 11:54:31 AM
i don see anything wrong with obama beside he is still new on the organisation what do more do you expect

BLACKsoWHAT!@trueblue 11/5/2009 11:57:15 AM
"Obama may go down as one of the worst US Presidents in history" No sir, that spot is reserved for G Bush, no one can top that, even if they tried.

jc 11/5/2009 11:58:13 AM
He has backtracked on the Palistinian issue and given in to Israel building on the West bank. He has achieved ZERO and he gets a Nobel Peace prize ????

Chris 11/5/2009 12:49:57 PM
Fall of the Republic

hasane victot 11/5/2009 12:57:21 PM
you are the best president usa ever had, infact you are the president of the whole world! keep that good job going on and on for ever and ever, amen! (i give you five(5) stars.

Bush vs Obama 11/5/2009 12:59:04 PM
One year has flown by for the 1st Black American President....and he's accomplished a lot in this 1 year....I mean, compare him to George W....he spent his 1st year in the Oval Office trying to find the corner!!!

Goose 11/5/2009 1:10:41 PM
Some journo summed it up all. "A populist who gets nothing done"
1)Guantanamo Bay still not closed
2)National health bill?
3)War in Iraq and Afghanistan worse than ever-no end in sight
4)Budget deficit increasing
5)pumped almost $800 Billion into big companies that are STILL on the verge of colapse
I think he is a populist(like JZ) who is a "nice guy" but a pathetic and spineless leader.

trueblue@BLACKsoWHAT 11/5/2009 1:22:14 PM
1) you misquoted me by leaving off the rest of my sentence; read more closely
2) at least tens of millions would disagree with you and we can assume that many are more educated and better informed than yourself..whether i am one of them is besides the point because;
3) why drag GW Bush into this? drawing comparisons here sounds like a lame attempt at deflecting truth.
4) if you think that its impossible for Obama to do a worse job than GW i would like to know on what basis you think this way when it is such early days still.

Playa 11/5/2009 1:26:20 PM
Hasn't done much, BUT at least it's not Bush anymore

BLACKsoWHAT!@trueblue 11/5/2009 2:04:54 PM
"at least tens of millions would disagree with you and we can assume that many are more educated and better informed than yourself". you've made an ass of yourself with this assumption talk about deflecting the truth, when you say Obama may go down in history as the worst president you've already compared him to previous and possibly future presidents, tell me when you type are you unconscious? its a rhetoric question.

trueblue@BLACKsoWHAT 11/5/2009 2:28:04 PM
you drew comparisons before the time.."if" and "may" are big words...should the US go down at the hands of the Obama Administration then we will have FACTS on which to draw comparisons. My reasoning is sound.

valentino 11/5/2009 4:00:21 PM
At least he was voted in by people understanding democracy, and not by givivng them food parcels and threatening to take their free-loader handouts away. Jeez, I wonder how much of the votes he would have got if he was singing about machine guns on election campaigns, or proclaimed that after skropping a HIV positive woman you shower not to get aids. He is an american, then a african.

chas 11/5/2009 4:36:35 PM
Come on - "Hasn't achieved anything" - let's consider the Health bill the ONE thing he was very adamant about, something American presidents have been pushing for since before Theodore Roosevelt, with no success. He has a bill which WILL move into legislation, agree not the one he promised but now the foot is in the door, easier in future to amend a bill than to table the bill.
New World Order? How is that going to be helped by giving basic health services to every American?
Every rich democratic country in the world (except the USA today) is providing this to their citizens; it is part of the fruits of living in real democracy, or is that just a method of manipulating the less affluent and less politically dangerous citizens of the country?
Furthermore you try and undo some of the hate and hurt which happened in G-Bay over the previous 7 years and release those guys within a year without doing some serious damage control and see how many bombs and jets you have to fend off.
Don’t judge the guy before he has served his term, judge him on the results of his term.

dumpie 11/5/2009 5:20:06 PM
hes still alive.

To All Posters 11/6/2009 2:17:04 AM
But weren't you all so exceedingly happy that "The Land Of The Free Got A Black President"? Barack Obama is nothing more than a smoke screen, a publicity stunt by powers that want to appear righteous and in tune with the times. The same power that forbids christianity in schools and in everyday life to be frank. To tell you the truth that sound so familiar. Oh wait yes, I know lets turn the clock back say about 15 years. The supposed saint, the black messiah, which in turn is also nothing more than a terrorist

simon 11/8/2009 5:10:53 PM
People seem to forget how "Mr Talk-a-lot" backed down to the Russians re the European missile shield. Kennedy had more guts in 1961, and Bush at least did something after 2001. Still waiting to see what "Mr we-can-do' can do!

Ed 11/10/2009 8:07:01 AM
He has failed. At the rate he is going he will only serve a single term. There is no change in fact he is doing more of the same but only worse. He and Ben Bernanke is killing the US economy and the dollar. Now he wants to socialise their entire health system. He never had the right and now he is losing the left as well.

non-conformist 11/10/2009 9:10:46 AM
who cares? i would rather rave and rant about JZ's incompetence at running SA

MG 11/10/2009 12:10:13 PM
Yaa a lot of people in this forum likes to just jump into the forum and talk without the facts. Guys do you ever read news about America. I don't think so. Barack Obama has done a lot so far in his firs few months in the office. In fact he can not be compared with any president so far. The promises he has made can not be fullfilled in on day but we know that he is busy with them. The Health Bill, War in Irac, War in Afganistan, Americas relationship with the Moslem and Arab world, Neuclear un Iran and Africa. Obama needs the cooperation of the rest of the world. He can not solve the problem of the whole world alone. The republican have messed up with the economy and he is busy fixing it and it has improved. People must read before they talk. The republican are the ones spreading this bad news about him meanwhile they are the ones who messed up everything. I'm telling you Obama will go down as the best President in the whole world. For you to see that read American news and hear what he is busy doing. Stop your fingures from jumping onto the keyboard and read first.

@ MG - Ed 11/10/2009 12:28:17 PM
You clearly don't understand the economic implications of his actions. He is killing the US economy, they now have a 1.2 trillion dollar defecit!! There is no difference between bush and obama. The only sane person over there is Ron Paul. Do yourself a favor and go and check out some videos of him on youtube.
