Cape Town - The residents of two of Cape Town's most beautiful seaside suburbs have something new to brag about. On Wednesday a brand new TV channel was launched in Hout Bay and Llandudno.
The local TV channel is internet-based and aptly named 790Tv - the three digits referring to the area dial code of Hout Bay and Llandudno.
"790Tv is a new platform to communicate with and entertain residents and businesses in Hout Bay and Llandudno through video-ad clips," online TV station manager and news editor, Jonathan Berman told News24 on Thursday afternoon.
The private initiative is driven by facilitator Tape Town Productions. "We wanted to focus on the concept of hyper-local news and content, and to create a dynamic multi-faceted community," he explained.
The idea was conceived while trail running above Suikerbossie at the beginning of 2008, Berman added. "It has taken eight months to develop. Testing was done from 1 October and four weeks later on 29 October, www.790tv.co.za went live."
According to Berman, content for the site is provided by locally based video journalists, and local businesses can buy advertising space in the video archives or as banners.
"Local residents are also invited to send story ideas or alert us of news leads," Berman told News24.
"We have applications on the website for public to send us user generated content and if they would like to send in a news lead, we would follow it up with our video journalists."
