Cope 'disintegrating'

by Tshepo Matjila
2009-07-09 14:12

I am bit disappointed that the once high-flying Congress of the People is disintegrating in a nasty fashion. Cope, once a party that threatened current ANC brigades, is now teetering on the brink of political abyss.

Why am I saying this?

This week has seen a spillage of what has been a palpable battle within exposed fully for all to see. One of their once prominent leaders, Simon Grindrod (himself a defector from ID), has written a scathing attack on the leadership collective of Cope and points to a deepening internal strife where there is constant cajoling for positions of influence, backstabbing and what he terms a "great fraud" indictment on the people of South Africa by Cope's leadership.

All of us are perplexed and repulsed at this new development as Cope, although not a political choice for some of us, represented a new "hope" for many democrats in South Africa who wanted an alternative to the ANC. The ANC, itself a powerful cult, gave birth to Cope in the summer of last year after internal power struggles. Many South Africans were jubilant that a once traditional black party with massive support was splitting into many formations.

Cope came at the right time and gave hope to a lot of people that indeed South Africa could deepen its democracy without bloodshed or the threat of an all out civil war. I appreciate that for democracy to work; an effective and robust opposition is the only answer. The DA, bless their souls, is playing a better role but in its current configuration is not primed for success.

The news from Simon Grindrod, later corroborated by another Cope resignee in Lynda Odendaal, that a "great fraud" has been perpetuated by Cope leaders on the millions of South Africans who voted for it in the recent National & Provincial elections leaves a collective sour taste in a lot of people.

Why do the electorates keep getting short-changed by these unscrupulous politicians?

Clearly perturbed by all these shenanigans, Grindrod goes on further to lambaste the "culture of denialism" within the ranks of Cope whereby issues raised by constituencies are not only denied but not entertained. Grindrod continues to say that Cope's agenda is set by people outside the party who continue to entrench ANC agendas within. The other iffy point is the reverence of Thabo Mbeki within Cope, as the leaders desperate for power quotes a man who distanced himself from it.

I am worried, not because I dislike Cope, but because such kinds of developments are what keep African politics in the doldrums and entrenches the culture of "single-party states". Promising political parties form to challenge incumbent ones promising reforms and changes in this and that amid much media and people fare only to fall flat on their belly a short while after. Party leaders go to parliament after the elections and that is the end of story. The electorate? Forgotten!

The next thing you know - they get NNP'ed (merged into the ruling party) - in what has famously been termed "changing things from within". Ask Dr Buthelezi (IFP), Dr Mangena (Azapo), Dr Mulder(VF) and Mr Van Schalkwyk (NNP- defunct) - they know this phenomenon better!

South Africa should get disgusted with these people because due to them this country would never experience the essence of true democracy: accountability, responsibility and a responsive government. Our parties continue to falter due to political avarice and the quest for power and influence. Who really loses? Again the electorates!

To Cope I say: Remove Mosioua Lekota if you want to, but know that would be the last thing you do as we are going to remove you as well from government!

"Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason." - Author Unknown.

A carbon copy of the anc hey ?

IandI 7/9/2009 2:25:02 PM
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts! It's normal innpolitics that there will be breakaways from the main party, just ask the ANC and PAC! COPE made the mistake of having two heads(Lekota and Dandala) just before the elections, what were they THINKING?

Chegoane 7/9/2009 2:27:31 PM
Kulkat what a balanced article from one of our own!

bongani 7/9/2009 2:27:45 PM
Who cares. it is not easy for any new part to survive. All tenders are controlled by ANC and if we know you are Cope associated, go and eat your HOPE. ANC will rule until i say otherwise, which is unfortunate.

tim 7/9/2009 2:30:46 PM
I say good riddance to COPE! Just a bunch of power hungry ex-ANC cadres anyway.

Dave 7/9/2009 2:30:51 PM
I'm very disappointed too. I hope COPE pulls themselves out of this rut and back on track. I am still hoping to vote for them in the next elections, provided they prove themselves.

tello 7/9/2009 2:32:11 PM
well written and good points put across. i hope that COPE leadership read this and understand what they've done to their supporters. I've supported both DA and ANC and have not liked where wither party was going to and COPe was a vison of the future ito an combined liberal movement and hopefully we can get this racism behind us (from both black and white). I hope they re-evaluate their position and starting giving us what we voted for

Yebo 7/9/2009 2:36:33 PM
Lekota must go and join the DA,hw will make a good match with Zille during their 2014 electioneering. He qualifies for DA cabinet he's male, lol.

SimonP 7/9/2009 2:37:31 PM
"Why do the electorates keep getting short-changed" Because they idiots who keep voting for inept parties.

SimonP 7/9/2009 2:39:09 PM
Bongani, "ANC will rule until i say otherwise, which is unfortunate" You have a somewhat over inflated ego, who do you think you are? Zuma?

RQ 7/9/2009 2:40:27 PM
COPE SHMOPE... I had a feeling this might happen... If you think about it, you have a band of disgruntled people joining together to form a party... Are they going to suddenly stop being disgruntled? No! They're going to get disgruntled with each other...

lloyd macklin 7/9/2009 2:40:29 PM
when Cope was founded I posted a comment imploring voters not to be misled by their leaders. If I remember correctly I said that they were simply ANC members who had been pushed away from the feeding trough and simply wanted to get to the front of the line.
What concerned me then, and now, is the fact that only the DA can be considered a viable opposition IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FACTS. If you are swayed purely by a sense of obligation to the ANC because of a mistaken belief that they gave you 'freedom' then you are lost. It's not too soon to appeal to the voters to really think clearly, analyse the policies and acknowledge if promises were kept. If you are in denial about incompetence, criminality and corruption stick to the ANC/COPE; perhaps you'll get your chance at the trough.

haha 7/9/2009 2:40:49 PM
one reason for cope's dismal performance is simon grindrod (boesak, etc). the party will shed its riff-raff and settle into a niche.

Kevin 7/9/2009 2:41:07 PM
I am willing to put 10bucs on Linda Odendal and Terror Lekota going down a path together.

Apollo 7/9/2009 2:41:11 PM
The rains came and washed away the stripes of the zebra to reveal another donkey.

pontsho mosoeu 7/9/2009 2:41:17 PM
Finally we are vindicated.Cope it was formed on the basis of anger and they also never wanted to be lead by particular individuals that were democratically elected in the conference.needs, ideals, and apirations they are not close to their hearts.

Phinah 7/9/2009 2:44:00 PM
In a country where any association with opposition parties (including COPE) will render you an enemy of the state, what do you expect? Everything is controlled by the ANC, personally I am very happy that all the weak elements are slowly been discarded, therefore COPE can only move forward with people who will stand the test of time. Clearly we all know that the SA political environment is not friendly towards people who holds different opinions to the ANC. No one said that it will be easy, and people like Odendaal who had it easy before embarking on a political career are not used to always sitting and pretending to b elistening to the Speaker of parliament the whole day, they are not the backbone of this COPE. As far as Simon is concerned, we can only assume that he is a lost child who is still searching for a home, he is in it for the money, and in time he will realise that only the ANC will be able to provide him with that.

mabzzzzzzzzzz 7/9/2009 2:44:09 PM
i wasted my vote

Poloyatonki 7/9/2009 2:47:59 PM
COPE leadership is a big joke, they don’t even have a way forward…. What a crap party!!!!

fedup 7/9/2009 2:55:36 PM
WHAT DID YOU EXPECT???HONESTLY!!!!wonder what the fools who voted for them think now. what plomkers!!!!

celebrations forever 7/9/2009 2:56:42 PM
what a waste of time, drop this topic. what is the COPE. Does it have any leaders / are they imposing leaders on their members. power-hungry idiots, they'll all go down the drain.

Cape Town Kid 7/9/2009 3:02:45 PM
I WANNA SAY "i told you " BUT NONE OF YOU WANTED TO LISTEN. THEY WERE BASED ON A LIE. THEY STOLE EVERYTHING FROM ANC, ie songs, policies and even tried to STEAL OUR HISTORY. NOW I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THE GANG OF THREE NOW? THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A CHEAP VERSION OF OPPORTUNISTS! THEY WERE BUILT INTO A SO-CALLED OPPOSITION BY MEDIA. REMEMBER WHAT THE ANALYSTS PREDICTED: sa will be run by a coalition of opposition party's..remember that! WHO IS THE FOOL NOW!remember it was the ANC who gave SA its values, its culture of democracy and its culture of progressiveness. SO sing my song...MY ANC,MY VISION,MY FUTURE.VIVA ANC VIVA!

Brett Herron 7/9/2009 3:03:07 PM
COPE's problems are not surprising - the party was formed for the wrong motives. This was not a break-away on principle but a break-away of expedience. Lekota / Shilowa et al didn't speak out or break away when the former administration adopted a AIDS Denialism position. They didn't break away when the previous administration adopted and stubbornly stuck to quiet diplomacy towards the Zim-crisis. They sat within the ruling party despite corruption / nepotism / attacks on the judiciary / subversion of the separation of powers etc etc. Only when it was clear that Mbeki and his inner circle (of which they were a part) were history did they serve the divorce papers and then form COPE. COPE was about personality rather than policy and principle. Its unfortunate.

Rogue Trooper 7/9/2009 3:09:15 PM
It is saddening to see what is happening at COPe but it's not unexpected considering the power struggle within just prior to the elections. I sincerely hope they can work things out and stay afloat because we need them for our democracy to survive.
I can't wait to see the posts from the ANC faithfuls/sheep, should make for the usual boring reading. Oh wait, I see Poloyatonki has graced us with his usual eloquent and convincing argument...plonker!!!

kamawa 7/9/2009 3:10:36 PM
The writing has been on the wall all the time pity for some ppl it took them so long to realise that COPE is an illusion.to qoute JZ"its cold outside the ANC"i wonder what is it that my president meant.but we all know Terror will beat behind the bush b4 he can come out and say they have problems maybe he is still talking to his laywer to draft him another divorce papers. Were is the constitution that they claimed was under threat from the ANC?i am still not convinced by these individuals that they can take the country forward they are bitter loosers.what was Lynda doing with these loosers?wrong turn madam go back to your businesses b4 they run dry by supporting HOPE.The true COPE please stand up.

Halfwise @ Cape Town Kid 7/9/2009 3:11:08 PM
I couldnt have said it better, Brother. Amen

Anon @ Cape Town Kid 7/9/2009 3:17:22 PM
They probably learnt how to steal when working at the ANC! Is there a formal "How to be corrupt and get away" and "How to Steal and Deny" policy in the ANC, must be as it seems that is their common goal!

Rogue Trooper 7/9/2009 3:17:45 PM
@CTK What's with the UPPERCASE? You strike me as one of those people who doesn't really have anything of substance to say but shout it out so that everybody can hear you and you think that that makes you seem important. Sorry but it makes you look like a fool. Interestingly you say "THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A CHEAP VERSION OF OPPORTUNISTS!" so if a follow the essence of you post you are in fact admitting that your ANC leaders are nothing but opportunists...your words not mine. See how you make yourself look like a fool and you did it while shouting...LOL...plonker no.2

Mark V @ Bongani 7/9/2009 3:19:11 PM
"All tenders are controlled by ANC and if we know you are Cope associated, go and eat your HOPE" My my, and here I was thinking that the state and the ANC were seperate. Is that not what the sheep are advocating?

These latest developments prove once again that there is only one viable and sustainable alternative to the ANC, and that is the Democratic Alliance.

Cynical@Cape Town Juvenile 7/9/2009 3:30:46 PM
So when you say the ANC gave SA it values then one assumes you mean rampant crime, lack of accountability, laziness, poor service delivery etc etc. Am I right so far?

As for the "culture of progressiveness", I agree with you - we certainly have progressed into a Third World Banana Republic in record time.

luthando 7/9/2009 3:32:05 PM
if u voted cope you wasted your vote. Honestly I am an ANC supporter and can admit that the DA would have been a far better option. You cant vote for a break away faction without expecting failure in the short term because of internal power struggles. You were clearly misled and should have read the fineprint or smelt the coffee. I personally give them another 6 months. The nice thing about ANC this time round is that promises were made and I certainly hope the OFFICIAL opposition gives us a tough time so Msholozi and his henchmen can actually deliver so we can be judged on unfortunate faults but be given praise on actual promises kept, because these nex ten years are the era of DELIVERY. Mark my words when ANC delivers all defected voters will return!

VG 7/9/2009 3:34:47 PM
...and so the Confusion of the People is fading slowly? hmmm...must say, took longer than I thought.

Mabzzz...you're not the only one who wasted your vote. I ( am embarrassed to say) voted for the DA at provincial level, thinking that some competition would keep the ANC on its toes. Whilst I stand by that decision, what a slap in the face when Zille annouced her provincial cabinet! I'm still reeling. And to add insult to injury, i drive around my suburb and see posters for a local ward election telling me to "keep your area DA!" - v progressive. Well, I won't be making that mistake twice. You love, you learn

SABELO S 7/9/2009 3:40:53 PM
It's really sad to see how many of the so called intelligent are actually blind followers of doom, political infants who eat what the media feeds them without considering the harm of their intake. COPE has never and will never be an alternative for the ANC because they are the ANC. They occupied the front seat of the gravy and were disgruntled when they had to move. Julius said it's cold outside of the ANC, so what all you COPE followers need to do is to come back home. I assure you as the proud father in the bible wlcoming his long lost son we will hug you and celebrate your return. My ANC, My Vision, My future.

SM 7/9/2009 3:40:59 PM

SimonP 7/9/2009 3:44:51 PM
@CTK, poloyatonki & halfwit, you lot are funny. Insiders at COPE say COPE is nothing but another ANC. You guys slate for being opportunistic and crap. If indeed they are ANC in all but name you are by definition stating the ANC are opportunistic and crap. Thanks for the confirmation of what the free thinkers among us already knew.

what is happening in cope is normal people will always join organisations and resign from organisations.what is of concern is when people are celebrating such resignations.my point is south africa needs a multi party democracy stong opposition that will make whoever is in power to guard state assets with care respect institutions of democracy and defend the constituition.COPE IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR THAT.

Poloyatonki @ SimonP, SM, Anon 7/9/2009 4:07:56 PM

The Africans have been short-changed by both the colonialists and their own, very sad. some of our articles are not being published and I wonder whether it is because of the unquestionable veracity of the article's essence or what. I posted two articles dealing in particular with africanism and africans within the corporate world and to this day, I have never seen those articles posted.

SABELO S 7/9/2009 4:44:38 PM
@TSHOLOFELO, You are 100% right, we need a multi party state for our democracy to thrive. Unfortunately COPE is not fit enough to help us achieve that. The party is led by individuals who were benefactors of the same ANC policies they are now critisizing. Did they only see the faults in the ANC in the past year?

SM 7/9/2009 4:45:52 PM
@poloyatonki: I have a real problem with joining the anc. In will type slowly so you can also read; the dead snake (aka mbeki) is also anc. So if I join anc I have a dead snake, a hiv snake and a juvenile snake. I dont like snakes in any form so I will stick where I am, very happy with it.

Mandla Mahlangu 7/9/2009 4:49:49 PM
I agree with my ANC fellows Poloyadonki, Cape town kid, halfwise etc. Anc is the future of this country.COPE was dead before or after it was formed. Shame Lekota is not later to rejoin ANC take Juan,Simonp,Sunuidety, and Wildfire with you.

Filemon 7/9/2009 4:55:04 PM
And the usual morons - CTK, Donkey - slating cope. But while they are typing their usual drivel, they should take their heads from the keyboard and out their asses, and see how many strikes are taking place because their aNc have sold them more down the drain than shikota could ever do. Time to move on to a party that DELIVERS - DA, ID, UDM

Tim 7/9/2009 5:08:57 PM
It's pretty obvious that Cope is laying the groundwork to (re)integrate into the ANC, thus giving the ANC its 2/3rd majority. So was Cope a scam all along?

Totsiens Cope 7/9/2009 5:28:32 PM
All those responsible 4 creating fights & factions in the ANC left to establish COPE. What did U xpect? They R still fighting & have factions. This time its in COPE. All COPE "leaders" are ANC rejects. Watch this space, its not the end of the fights & factions. Shame Phillip Dexter, Shilowa, Terror, Mluleki George, Smuts, you don't want 2B members of a political party, you want 2B the "leaders". I suggest another breakway. Here R a few names 4 a new political party: COPE LITE, COPE ZERO. See all of U in 2014 elections! Babaai for now.

Bongani2 7/9/2009 5:30:23 PM
I read these comments and I see that there's no real hope for the future; it's just a bunch of racists from the left and right. all of you will be responsible for messing up our future as we need a balanced society and a self checking political system. Power to the people will only come when the people choose who is best to represent them and the politburo are made accountable for their decisions/actions. Realise that you are doing this for your children and grand children etc

Greg 7/9/2009 5:40:33 PM
Go back to home to the ANC. They need that percentage of your to make the two thirds majority. Please go home.

Thabo Matwabeng 7/9/2009 6:09:29 PM
We have a multi-party, constitutional democracy designed to ensure the prosperity and welbeing of every citizen regardless of race, gender, age, religious, political or any other affiliation. People treat politics as if its like supporting a soccer team. In case anyone has forgotten, we have this system exactly because ir replaced one where one group exploited their power. Having the majority vote does not allow violating those principles. I will never join a political party because there is something in it for me but rather because it is the right thing for the country. The ANC is creating a virtual country within SA where anyone who does not dance to their tune is marginalised. Mark my words: we will see court cases still this year where South Africans will take government to court over being disenfranschised. ANC supporters can be smug about there numbers if they like but the freedom that was fought for is being raped by your ignorance.

kmk 7/9/2009 7:11:23 PM
I said it a long time ago. A party needs to be guided by principles and not hunger for power and hatred for other leaders. Rest in peace cope and sorry no resurrection for you.

I'm with Bongani2 on this one. We desperately need people to vote for politicians on merit, not because of sentiment, or because there is something in it for you and we must hold politicians accountable. See Thabo Matwabeng's comments as well.

@Bongani2 & Thabo 7/10/2009 6:25:43 AM
Great comments and ideas Just a pity that the masses will never wake up, for various reasons but never the less they will not, even if its too late. Look at "worms for brains Mugabe" Its unbelievable but he is still around. What can you say It's an African thing not just a SA thing. Look around you, or rather at the entire Africa as a whole and you can see it. Evolution bypassed the African people somewhere along the line!!!!!!

Eles 7/10/2009 7:15:42 AM
The problem with Cope is everyone wants to be chief and no-one wants to be an indian
@ Cape Town kid you say ANC gave SA values as much as I don't respect the ANC (large in part due to cronyism, gross incompetence and corruption) - even I realise that we can't blame everything on them - we can't blame SA's lack of values on ANC just because of their failure to eradicate problems of poverty and general stuff up of education! The problem with SA politics is no passion, people are in it for the power and gravy train hence why I have no respect for ANC. The one person who shines through with passion, efficiency and a drive to make a difference is a woman and white so you will never vote for her despite the fact that she is clearly more competent and a true leader than any ANC politican ever! I would also perhaps have more respect for the ANC if their supporters and themselves were capable of a statement without using the words cadre, challenge, comrades and counter revolutionary and wanting to nationalise everything these words prove them to be twits! I guess I will just never "get it" - the ANC delivery has been shockingly poor the corruption across the board is staggering, giving their friends tenders who are not qualified look at the latest housing dilemma with an estimated 2 billion to be spent on the substandard housing done never mind the millions stolen from this same department this is why I do not respect ANC and quite frankly consider all ANC supporters to be stupid based on the fact that this instance and others just does not seem to bother you at all - now I challenge you I do no doubt for a second that if the DA or indeed any other party led this country those same issues would be a problem for you but in an ANC led party you do not care? This is why you are not a true patriot of the country at all! PS don't bother responding with the usual inane pre 1994 I didn't have electricity blah blah the joke is on you because so much more could have been done but has not due to the incompetent ANC!

Clintonv 7/10/2009 8:48:47 AM
COPE was and always will be ex ANC Staff, corrupt to the core. ANC stands for All Negative Citizens....not all of use stand for your negative attitude and "We WANT" Attitude. Apartheid gave you free this free that, now you have FREEdom and still want FREE this and FREE that...get a job and contribute to this country and stop demanding free living. Be part of the solution, all the ANC Supports are doing is causing chaos and promoting crime. The farm style mentality does not work, just look at Malema (A Stand-up comedian, maybe he should work for Joe Parker's Comedy tour)

Adrian 7/10/2009 8:59:44 AM
The signs are there, the ANC did not get 2 thidr majority, but i suspect COPE is gonna run back to the ANC. @RQ-i also had a feeling about this.

matso 7/10/2009 9:10:50 AM
Shilowa is killing COPE. Mlungisi Hlongwane, Odendaal and Grindrod, they all resigns because this man. They regard him as an opportunist who want to dethrone Lekotaas party leader. After Lekota announced that they will serve divorce paper, this man came out as if he is the leader of the party even resigning from ANC. Shilowa has been used by this Mbeki's Xhosaphobia to put Lekota out of the party. He agreed to put Lekota as interim president at Bloemfontein but because of his wife as businesswomen, he and his cronies thought business people don't want Lekota as a leader of the party.

Lekota is an angry person but is always talking truth. By the time he left ANC, the part was out of order because Zuma and Mbeki loyalist were denying the truth. I know Lekota was not within both camp because he and Mbeki were not close friends as the way Mbeki and Zuma they were. Lekota is the man who clinch ANC chairperson in Mafikeng from Mbeki loyalists, late Steve Tshwete.

GeorGe @Yebo 7/10/2009 9:20:13 AM
Why should the DA take ex ANC scum - just like their Zuma leader - absolute trash! Go take a shower and stop trying to rubbish the squeky clean DA with your trash. Bring the Cope back into the ANC fold where they belong. And then disappear into the sunset you moron!

SJ 7/10/2009 10:13:56 AM
To those who voted for COPE - you voted for a lie- What were their reasons by the way - no respect for the constitution, no rule of law, respect for the judiciary -anc has moved from the principles of the Freedom charter, meki was removed unconsitutionally. remember this? These were lies and no matter how much you repeat them - they wont turn to be true. you were warned but because for your heatred for the anc you fell for it. What a waste -maybe if you voted for DA - no matter how much it makes me puke to think of it - it could have been a better choice. So which of thier reasons have come true? zilch! These were power hungry people who knew that in the absence of mbeki - they would go hungry! What did they do? They formed a ponzi scheme! Yes a ponzi scheme - but like all other immoral schemes - they dont last!

Shimane Mbuyisa to Phinah 7/10/2009 10:32:19 AM
You are the woman Phinah. COPE is cleansing itself of the fainthearted.

Dan 7/10/2009 10:59:17 AM
Cope can still make a difference. What they need to do is to choose a leader, who is not power hungry and relatively unknown, but that has the future of South Africans in mind.

@Brett Herron - VIVA 7/10/2009 11:04:01 AM
I agree fully with Brett.

What underpins the anger, frustration and despair at COPE's implosion, is a deep desire to keep the ANC in check.Heavens know it must be kept in check for our own survival as a nation.Forming a new party is not the easiest undertaking as we all know.Perhaps the DA will see how desperate we are for a viable opposition and take advantage of the situation by appealing to all South Africans instead of focusing on the minority. We need to keep the ANC in check for posterity's sake.

Letstasti 7/11/2009 12:09:23 PM
it's like a representation of South Africans
as a whole because the only thing that binds the ANC is the vote based on race just like the previous NP where the colour of your skin judges you

MJS 7/11/2009 12:11:22 PM
ANC and COPE have difficulty to keep other in check because no one wants to take responsibility for their actions.
Its a common character of South Africans

I LOVE THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS WITH EVERY CELL OF MY HEART.
COPE, Ha ha ha ha ha, lol. what were lekota and Shilowa thinking. I can see them in sandton in that hall singing and dancing, few months later they are dying. DIE COPE DIE.

Anele 7/14/2009 7:47:36 AM
@Poliodonkey and the rest of the bafoons...The fact that your so called "Leader" has a song that was sung during the Apartheid era as his personal "anthem" shows that he is not really over everything that happened. which would justistfy the way he rules and why millions of other black south africans are still on some petty little revenge scheme against the white south africa. Get with the programme, it is time for CHANGE! and yes although you may not like it, that change includes a party with a stronger vision and most importantly a party that can ACT to govern our country. And that right now is NOT the A.N freaken C!!!!!!!!!

agree with leopard spots..politicians are liars ALWAYS....God knows the truth ALWAYS.

Joe 7/14/2009 12:54:40 PM
It is regretable to see Simon resign from his position in the party but I admire the courage of speaking his mind otherwise we would have ended up like the ANC when Lekota and others resigned from the party for reasons known to all , there are different vesions of truth about their deprture so don`t bother giving me your vesion as I have my own . Again I want to commend Simon Grindrod for not leaving the party as I think he will have immense contribution in adressing the concerns or the issues he himself identified and raised , the leaking of that internal memo is one issue for debate and I think as COPE we need to differ from the ANC in dealing with this situation hence I do not support the use of the word "Coward" against those that leave the party . Let us thank Linda Odendaal for her valued contribution while still a member of COPE and again it is pitty she did not stay to see how we deal with issues raised as a reason for her departure. I joined COPE because I believed it would be different from my pervious political home and I still trust that it will live up to those expectations , I Will stand by this party in the same way that I stood by my previous party for many years before the day I said I give up , this will never change. I cannot be scared therefore by negative comments who`s origin is soooooooo Obvious during these challenging moments of the party , I am not Naive to think that they would cry with us . They have more than enough problems of their own to deal with , Let us COPERS deal with our own , we are capable enough and we will succeed . Fianlly thanks to the CNC for meeting to tackle issues raised and I appeal to you to just correct the leaking of the memo when talking to Simon and not be vindictive like those that forced you to be where you are now , infiltration cannot be ruled out here as Simon apparently wrote an Internal Memo and Not an Open letter to teh leadership so Be Wise , Be Careful , Be Vigilant and handle this matter with Care . VIva COPE , you have my vote come 2011 . To A Better Future !!!!!!
