Divine intervention needed

Zimbabwe - betrayed by its leaders and forgotten by Africa.

If I had power, I would use it to dethrone Mugabe. If I was a member of the ANC's NEC , I would use my position to uncover the evilness of Mugabe. If I was a part of Africa's elite club, I would use my clout to bring hope to that land.

But I have nothing. I am just nobody. No one will listen to me. I am just an invisible soul. The best I could do is pray for sanity in that country.

It pains me to see innocent people dying like flies. They are pawns in power games played by their leaders. They have no say. Just powerless. How do you comfort someone who has not eaten in a week? Others have no roof over their heads. Children are made orphans by circumstances beyond their control. Who will stop the raping of women?

Now we hear of the cholera outbreak. A preventable disease, symbolising a country dying a painful death. Only in the absence of clean drinking water and poor sanitation is cholera prevalent. Zimbabwe has none!

Hospitals have no medications. The shops have no bread. Children have no milk. Twenty years ago, Zimbabwe could feed Africa. Today, it has become a ghost country. Only the dead are living there.

What happened to this once beautiful land? Leaders, greedy leaders are to blame. It's so sad to see so-called leaders fighting over positions as the nation is slowly dying of hunger. Everyone wants to be the king. I expected more from the MDC. But I had forgotten they are just politicians, who care about their own stomachs.

It's Africa's curse - liberators turning into dictators. It's unacceptable that the country is a hostage to political ambitions of greedy leaders. If Zanu-PF and the MDC can't agree, why don't they allow a neutral voice to be in charge of it until the next general elections? Simba Makoni is a good choice.

I pray for sanity and selfless leadership to return. I pray for courage from South African leaders. For ten years, we stood and watched as Mugabe was destroying that country. Actually we helped him. I remember our Foreign Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Zuma defending the policies of Mugabe. Mlambo-Ngcuka led a delegation that endorsed the flawed elections in Zimbabwe. Mbeki was smiling as Mugabe was killing his people. Yes, South Africa also has blood on her hands.

Africa was too scared to do anything. The continent watched as Zimbabwe was burning. I pray that the new leaders will not only talk tough, but will act tough in dealing with the old fox. It can't be as business as usual. Mugabe can't be allowed to do as he pleases. The time for change is now!

I pray that someone will listen. I pray for courage. I pray for strong leadership. I pray for an end to human suffering. I pray for divine intervention.

Now you blame the MDC for not saying: "Well, we won the elections, but because you are bullying us, Mugabe, you can stay in power and do as you like because you control all the departments that actually mean something." ?? It is NOT the MDC's fault. It is Robber Mugabe's fault, as well as those who support him because he is a "liberation struggle leader".

CK 11/25/2008 2:25:09 PM
Good article. Whilst praying for Zim I'll be praying that the same won't happen to us. Our government is not much better. As you've said they have blood on their hands - a lot of blood.

Martin 11/25/2008 2:38:24 PM
We are praying for this country and feel deeply sorrow for them, but who is going to save SA, we are on the same path of destruction, he writting is on the wall, continuee voting for the ANC and SA will become like Zimbabwe in the next 10 years.

Oom_Kosie 11/25/2008 2:39:06 PM
Did you see what the Zim state media are now accusing the "Elders" (stupid name, as Robber is older than all of them) of? "They are plotting regime change!!" Well, of course they are!

Martin 11/25/2008 2:39:21 PM

The Truth 11/25/2008 2:44:38 PM
Obama having to negotiate with Bush in order to become president, even after having won the election fair and square?! Africans have much to learn about proper democracy and listening to the voices of the people.

Ands 11/25/2008 2:50:53 PM
What happens to our own country. We have seen and hopefully our people have learnt that what has happened in Zimbabwe could if we let it, happen to our beloved country. So what can we do ....we can make sure we change the direction our country is leading by saying YES to change in the next election.

VG 11/25/2008 2:52:40 PM
Oh sob, sob." ..it pains me to see innocent people dying like flies...they are pawns...they are powerless". Um,no they're not. This should serve as a lesson to all South Africans that you ignore politics at your peril.Join a party, be active in your community, VOTE. For TWENTY YEARS zimbabweans did none of these things. I may not vote for the DA, but I am very, very glad they exist.

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 11/25/2008 2:55:47 PM
We gave it MORE than enough time. Too much in fact. Now its time to assassinate the dictator. African Union needs to move in, no other way about it. Only in Africa, will you find a 'democracy' where the President, has been in power for more than 25 years. End Zimbabwe's agony, by ending Mugabe.

PeterH 11/25/2008 2:58:22 PM
Just ask Zuma. He's on good terms with plenty of churches.

cuba 11/25/2008 2:58:39 PM
ofcourse they are! the hand of the colonialists is acting through kofi anan to steal all the valuable resources from comrade bob!

BL 11/25/2008 3:11:43 PM
Thank you for that article. I think your strong sense of hopelessness and dismay is felt by so many. Shows how easy it is to turn a once prosperous country into desolation in such a short period. I fear SA is on the same path, but its up to us to stop it from happening.

hc 11/25/2008 3:12:35 PM
I am sorry you can not blame the MDC. They clearly won the elections. They should be in power. I can not see why the MDC must compromise anything. If Mugabe continues to be in power the suffering will continue. He should be eliminated sooner rather than later. The only option!!! Regarding his friends, I agree they all have blood on their hands (embarrasing)!!!

Fred 11/25/2008 3:13:08 PM
However JZ and his Nec will make lots of noise but do nothing to resolve the issues, it is not in his interest as he wants to implement the same policies in SA as Mugabe used in Zim to bring its knees. JZ and the ANC want total power(Dictatorship)one party state to do what they like. That is why we can not afford to allow them to obtain 2/3 of the vote next year, if we do here comes Zim no2.

Elizabeth 11/25/2008 3:21:00 PM
Lucas, I'm sitting here, reading, with tears in my eyes. You wrote a beautiful, moving article! I have friends from Zimbabwe. Even though they're black (and Shona!) they have not benefited from Mugabe's land policies. Why was the land taken if not to give to the rightful owners (NOT his cronies!). If only it was done in the proper way. So many good black farmers out there, yet the land was taken by terrible force, and given to people not interested in farming.

Gary 11/25/2008 3:22:06 PM
In the end what will the leaders be fighting for, to govern what/ who? Everyone will have left or will be dead/ dying. This is the time for the ANC to stop it's bickering with petty rubbish and stand up for something. I belive that JC is trying to do this. I just hope it's not too late.

SimonP 11/25/2008 3:23:07 PM
Mugabe is turning away aid because its a western plot to overthrow him.(despite the fact he lost the election hes still in charge!!) He is nuts plain and simple. I dare anyone to back him. Lets not hear the colonialist rubbish. The guy is a paranoid, meglamanic facist. Next stop SA??

Badger 11/25/2008 3:24:44 PM
Stop your whining, ?if I had power? you have none ?if I was a member? you are not ?if I was part of the Elite club? well you ain?t , yes you are a nobody like the rest of us. The only hope and I say H.O.P.E. is that some Military Force goes in there and blows Mugabe back to wherever he came from and if this should happen, it will still take years for that country to come right. Look up all of Africa DRC, Somalia, Darfur the list is endless. It?s Greed and Money and sorry for those poor woman and children who get in the way. ?Welcome To Africa and Have A Dark Day?

Chris 11/25/2008 3:25:48 PM
Sorry to hear the about the blood on your hands, but if you said this was coming 10 years ago you were called a racist. To be honest there are still many who think Bob is a hero. Once a Hero in Africa always a Hero

Mr T 11/25/2008 3:33:33 PM
What a nice article and I pray with you !!!! May the lord help those poor souls.... they don`t deserve whats happening to them.....

Poor Farmer 11/25/2008 3:38:10 PM
No farmer = No farm = No food = No country?

Nicole 11/25/2008 3:40:05 PM
I feel for those poor people who have lost everything at the hand of that monster. May they have some peace soon so they can begin to rebuild their lives, and may we never be foolish enough to elect and keep a tyrant like Mugabe in our country.

bob 11/25/2008 3:40:27 PM
but remember, Mugabe still gets a very high percentage of the votes. So who should we help? The people that vote for him? or those that don't? For 15 years now, almost daily there is criticism of the ANC for all sorts of issues. But folks still vote for them. 66% in the last election. Why criticise what the majority wants?

Dan 11/25/2008 3:40:34 PM
one of two things...extreme one: assassinate mugabe, downside of it..it wil lead to bigger riots and instability in the country...the other..let him be till he dies..downside to this> he might live too damn long..question is..how much of zanu-pf still want or rather erspect mugabe..find those...maybe there is an underlying possibility there

Thamsanqa ka Ncube 11/25/2008 3:42:45 PM
I am sick and tired of everybody pretending as if Zimbabwe is some fictional country, whose citizens cannot do anything for themselves, but continously go running to the UN, SADC, etc! Come, on people! When the people of this country got tired of trying to reason with the apartheid government, they stood up, and in 1976, young people spilt their blood on the streets of Soweto; in China, students stood and blood was split on Tianemen Square, and in countless other countires in the world!

nthatuwa 11/25/2008 3:46:13 PM
African has not forgotten about Zimbabwe.Mugabe has chased away anyone that has sought to help Zimbabwe. He has failed his people. Why should help be refused with regards to govenment but be accepted when the country is hit by Cholera?I'm not saying our country shoudn't help, but Mugabe will relax when he sees that he can mess things up and have other countries come clean it up.Its like an irresponsible child knowing that his parents will always come through for him no matter what.

William 11/25/2008 3:48:57 PM
Praying is the best thing you can do for Zim! Pray for SA also.

Bloemies 11/25/2008 3:50:03 PM
Freestate health dept announced today -there are no money to run the medical services necessary until at least March 2009.Does this not remind anybody of Zim a couple of years ago.--WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

MarkAnthony 11/25/2008 3:54:50 PM
It seems like you are blaming everyone except the Zimbabweans, they themselves had a chance to vote out Mugube with overwhelming majority and they did not. This a claer lesson for us South Africans.

MJ 11/25/2008 3:56:10 PM
Not quite "and forgotten by Africa" as you put it, just no one wants to be firm with them and tell them to snap out of it.

Glock 22c 11/25/2008 4:01:27 PM
Who cares what happens in Zim , They made their bed. Lets just hope the people of SA can learn from their mistakes. We have anough of our own problems and a lot of them (crime) being caused by Zimbos. I feel more for the SPCA closing down than I feel for Zimbabwe !!

Monika 11/25/2008 4:06:23 PM
Hi Lucas, I agree with you wholeheartedly. We pray for Zim every day as well as our own country. The Bible says "If my people humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land". That is the only thing that is going to help us and Zimbabwe. Mugabe lost an election fair and square and he is still in "power"? What I dont understand is why does everyone pussy foot around this dictator? It does'nt make sense. All I can say is pray, pray, pray.

Steph 11/25/2008 4:06:46 PM
You and me both!!!

CapeTownJunk 11/25/2008 4:12:37 PM
Ummm, what if this cholera and starvation and death and stuff *is* divine intervention? This all sounds very reminiscent of the Old Testament. Or are you trying to second-guess your G0d's mysterious ways?

terence 11/25/2008 4:17:23 PM
zimbos did not do enough to overthrow mugabe so now they must suffer while mugabe eats off his china plates and silver cutlery while his people eat like dogs from the dusbins. This has nothing to do with colonialism oir mdc it is soley mugabes regime to blame. so again to all the zimbos you had your chance stop complaining..as for sa vote anc and you will suffer the same fate as your neighbours.

deon 11/25/2008 4:20:41 PM
Bob did everyone, Black & White a huge injustice. However his own black Zimbabweans worse off than the white farmers. I fail to understand how he could possibly think such a policy will benefit Zimbabwe or Zimbabweans???

Benzo 11/25/2008 4:30:43 PM
African leaders will fight untill there is nothing left to fight about....what is worse dying while fighting or dying of hunger. The Zim population seems to have decided for the latter. Is there no one in Africa who could kill old Bob so we can see the real powers behind him stand up. You might be surprised.

Ginger 11/25/2008 4:31:40 PM
If our government doesn't buck up that is our own future we are looking at - especially if Zuma gets his two thirds majority and democracy goes out the window. No one party should have that type of control on any country. There must always be a good strong opposition or two to keep the otherside in check. Don't think the rest of Africa will help us anymore than we helped Zimbabwe either. Pray for all of Africa - it needs it.

SimonP 11/25/2008 4:33:50 PM
There is only one person to blame: not western colonialists, not britain, not US, not "the Elders", not MDC. Its Robert Mugabe. He believes the Elders want to overthrow him (but he didnt win the election in the 1st place) crazy deluded nutter.I dare anyone to blame anyone but Bob.

WAM 11/25/2008 4:43:43 PM
It pains me when people think that praying is going to solve the world's problems. Stop wasting time with praying or any other mysticism. It does not, has not and will never work. Mysticism and religion are the tools of the weak and useless.

Dans an idiot 11/25/2008 4:44:08 PM
I just hope that the same thing does not happen here.

GailC 11/25/2008 4:47:36 PM
Where are the good people of Africa? Why is a bunch of greedy old and young men being allowed to get away with this? Do not blame Tsvangirai. The demon here is the military backed by the Chinese who are quietly infiltrating Africa because they have the fastest growing population outside Africa and need the land. They don't care what Africans die, they supply the weapons not the medications.

Smokin' 11/25/2008 4:48:22 PM
The leaders of ALL Sadec countries and the AU should sit Mugabe down and tell him in no uncertain terms that his political game/s are over. They should recognise the March elections and the MDC and Morgan to be put into power. All army personnel to be confined to Barracks for at least 12 months and a combined AU/UN Force to go in and help the police maintain Law and Order.

Africa will live! 11/25/2008 4:56:09 PM
There is nothing like african curse. Its just greediness, selfishness, and cold heartedness. We should realizes that those who stay in glass houses can not afford throwing stones. Who does not skeletons in Africa. Their hands are not clean. However I do agree with the writer on prayer.Prayer alone will change the face of Africa. People who supposed to be praying are complaining and insulting these leaders. This explains why our prayers have not been effective of later.Lets pray for them with love

Rian 11/25/2008 5:09:43 PM
Some thing should have been done ages ago. After the first election, when the violence started, SADC should have sent in peace keepers and oversean that the following elections were free and fair. VIVA ZANU-PF, VIVA ANC!
