Johannesburg - HIV-infected travellers who grew up in malaria-free areas, risk dying if they contract the disease, a study has revealed.
"This highlights the interaction of the two diseases - which is of great public and occupational health importance," said Dr Andrew Jamieson, of SAA-Netcare travel clinic.
He said South Africans were becoming more mobile.
"Companies are sending hundreds of workers into malaria-affected areas in Africa. Educating the work force about the risk of malaria in HIV-infected individuals is now even more important."
