A US decision to freeze spending on treatment for HIV in several African countries has prompted concern that some of the gains made against the Aids epidemics since 2003 could be reversed.
Sasolburg - A suspected serial rapist agreed on Thursday at the Sasolburg magistrate's court to undergo an Aids test, Northern Free State police said.
Captain Rosa Benade said the results would be used to determine whether the Sebokeng man might have infected his victims.
He reappeared in court on Thursday in connection with the rape of 10 women in the past seven months.
Benade said he did not apply for bail as he had indicated earlier. The case was postponed to September 19.
The courtroom was packed with his alleged victims - their ages ranging from 14 to 21 years - and their families.
Outside a group of about 30 people demonstrated against his release on bail.
The man is also accused of attempting to rape another three women during the same period.
He was arrested on July 8 in the company of a 14-year-old girl whom he allegedly intended to rape.
He earlier lied to police about his age and address, Benade said.
