Cape Town - Former deputy
president Jacob Zuma has been officially charged with rape, the National
Prosecuting Authority confirmed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile 702 Eyewitness news confirmed with Zuma's lawyer Michael
Hulley
that Zuma had been charged. He appeared briefly in the Johannesburg
magistrate's court. Zuma is expected to release a statement later on Tuesday.
A 31-year-old Aids activist has accused Zuma - who was dismissed as
deputy
president in June this year in connection with alleged corruption related to
the arms deal - of raping her.
Zuma has repeatedly denied rape, arguing that
they had consensual sex.
