Johannesburg - "The Bible saved my life," said a 60-year-old man
after two bullets which were meant to kill him, were stopped by
the Bible he was reading.
Risimath Hatlane was sitting on the stoep of his house at Shigamane village near Giyani, reading his Bible, when two men approached and deamanded money.
Before Hatlane could react, one of the men pulled out a gun and fired off two quick shots - straight at him.
However, the bullets slammed into the Bible.
Police captain Moatshe Ngoepe said it was hard to believe that Hatlane was still alive.
"One of the thugs had an axe and threatened to chop off
Hatlane's head, but changed his mind and instead hit him on the
head with the axe handle.
They robbed Hatlane of R500, before fleeing.
