Crime crackdown in Joburg

Johannesburg - Johannesburg police have arrested 113 people for various crimes during a night raid in the area, police reported on Tuesday.
Superintendent Richard Luvhengo said the raid which started on Monday night and ended on the early hours of Tuesday morning saw the arrest of people suspected of crimes including murder, rape and armed robbery.
He said the arrests were a clear indication that police were committed in putting those who broke the law behind bars. "Those who break the law of the land will be put where they belong without looking at the date, time and day," he said.
He said it was unfortunate that some people would choose to spend Christmas and New Year in prison instead of spending it with their families.
"It is unfortunate that we cannot allow them to enjoy the freedom they do not deserve".
He appealed to the public to co-operate in solving crime.
