Johannesburg - A 65-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death of his 55-year-old-girlfriend in Hlalani near Grahamstown, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Inspector Milanda Coetzer said a young family member was in the house and saw the man and his girlfriend argue around 21:00 on Sunday.
The young woman then saw the man allegedly strangle her 55-year-old aunt.
The woman ran to the neighbours and asked them to keep an eye on the fighting couple.
The young woman then went home. The neighbours went to the house after she had left.
The neighbours later found the 55-year-old woman on fire.
They managed to extinguish the flames but the woman had died.
Police were called and took the 65-year-old man into custody when neighbours pointed him out to the police.
A case of murder was being investigated.
The 65-year-old had not been charged with the crime but if he were charged he would appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said Coetzer.
