Umtata - Four women, aged between 22 and 35, were arrested in Umtata on Wednesday for allegedly producing fraudulent identity documents, Eastern Cape police reported.
Spokesperson Superintendent Nondumiso Jafta said the Umtata corruption task team, acting on a tip-off, raided the offices where the women worked and confiscated birth certificates, IDs, ID application forms, R5 000, bank cards, and statements.
Jafta said all the forms, IDs and birth certificates were supposed to be held at the home affairs department offices.
"We suspect that there is a syndicate of these fraudulent ID-makers," she said.
It was not immediately known when the four would appear in court.
