Johannesburg - Protea Magistrate's Court prosecutors on Friday accused Majid Saleem, 25, one of five men accused of murdering a mother and daughter near Lenasia in March, of concocting evidence in a bid to win bail.
The bodies of 44-year-old Fatima Momade and her 13-year-old daughter, Nazia, were found next to the Old Potchefstroom Road near Lenasia in mid-March. They had been shot in the back of the head.
Prosecutors would, on August 13, call witnesses and submit evidence to rebut his claims.
Saleem told the court last month that he had been in custody for four months and wanted bail so that he could look after his business interests.
Saleem, Wahid Shekh, Amanla Narsula, Ali Tasawari and Sajeed Khan were arrested in mid-March on provisional charges of murder, attempted murder and contravening the Firearms Act.
The State strongly opposes bail for Saleem. The other men have not applied for bail.
