Johannesburg - A consignment of cocaine with a street value of R200m was seized at Durban harbour on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The 200kg consignment of cocaine in the form of blocks was found stashed in a rucksack in one of the cabins of a ship from South America, said national police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Vish Naidoo.
This is believed to be the country's biggest drugs bust, AFP said.
The ship is believed to have begun its voyage in Argentina, AFP reported.
The drug bust followed a tip-off and police investigations are continuing.
A man was arrested during the raid on the ship.
"One crew member whose cabin the drugs were found in was arrested," Naidoo said.
"The crew has been questioned. Most cannot speak English."
The man was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday.
