Pretoria - The board of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has reaffirmed its decision not to extend the contract of Trevor Abrahams as chief executive officer after he was found guilty on a number of disciplinary charges.
"A new CEO will be appointed in due course," board chairperson Israel Skosana said on Thursday.
Abrahams' CAA contract expired at the end of September.
The CAA placed Abrahams on compulsory leave in December last year following a newspaper report stating that he and his fiancée jointly owned a private events company that had tendered for and benefited from CAA contracts.
A disciplinary hearing, chaired by an independent senior counsel, started in February and its findings were submitted to the board late last month, Skosana said.
"The hearing found Abrahams guilty on charges relating to dishonesty, intimidation, defiance of board mandate and favouritism," he said.
Last week, Transport Minister Dullah Omar filled another position which Abrahams previously held by appointing Seboseso Machobane as commissioner of civil aviation.
Machobane is also the acting CEO of the CAA.
