Johannesburg - A boiler overheated and caused a building in central Johannesburg that houses the Gauteng planning and local government offices to tremble, the department said on Wednesday.
The building on the corner of Sauer and Commissioner Streets was hurriedly evacuated on Tuesday when a strong shaking was felt.
Departmental spokesperson Nanagolo Leopeng said engineers did a thorough inspection of the building and came to the conclusion that the boiler in the basement had overheated, causing the building to tremble.
She said personnel went back to the building on Wednesday morning and it was "back to business" for the department.
About 400 people were evacuated from the trembling building on Tuesday and were accommodated at the Gauteng housing department, also situated in Sauer Street.
