Nelspruit - There was a 20% drop in the number of reported farm murders in Mpumalanga in the first six months this year, according to provincial safety and security MEC Dina Pule.
She defined farm attacks as cases where farm residents were murdered, and not cases of robberies or attempted murders.
She said on Thursday there were 63 murders on farms in the province between January and May 2006, compared to 77 murders during the same period in 2005.
"I have reiterated in the past that to refer to these violent crimes in the farms as farm attacks is incorrect," she said.
"A farm attack is when the sole motive is to take the life of the person who resides on the farm and nothing else."
