Union 'must inform members'

Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Emergency Service on Saturday called on the SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) to inform all its members that the strike was over.
JEMS spokesperson Percy Morokane said that as yet the department had not had any reports of people not pitching up for work.
"...But we forsee that there might be a problem, so it's just a precautionary measure."
"Samwu...[has] been urged to make sure that its members have been and are informed accordingly of the outcome of the negotiations."
The Gauteng Department of Health and the SA Municipal Workers Union both confirmed that an agreement had been reached between the union and employers. This brought to an end month-long industrial action.
The strike began a month ago when Samwu members accused EMS of not adhering to an agreed-upon wage settlement from as far back as November.
EMS fought back and said that no wage negotiations had taken place and that any such negotiations ought to be made in a bargaining council.
