Johannesburg - Former Miss South Africa Diana Tilden-Davis, who was attacked by a hippo in December, has celebrated her birthday in hospital.
The former beauty queen has been in the Milpark clinic in Johannesburg for over a month.
Tilden-Davis, who won the Miss South Africa pageant in 1991, was attacked on December 17 while paddling in the Okavango Delta, where she and her husband, Chris Kruger, run a safari company.
"Diana has been experiencing a lot of pain...," says Kruger.
"She is uncomfortable and not a happy woman, but it helps that our two-year-old daughter Kaylyn and I are visiting her."
According to Kruger, Tilden-Davis celebrated her birthday with her family on Saturday.
He says reconstructive surgery has been performed on Tilden-Davis's leg and the wound is healing well. She will regain the use of her leg, but is battling at present to move her ankle.
Tilden-Davis will probably be discharged at the end of the month.
