Johannesburg - Hazel Crane, who always introduced herself as a friend of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, was cremated on Tuesday.
The cremation followed a short Catholic service at the Fourways Memorial Park cemetery west of Johannesburg.
A short eulogy was delivered by Crane's long-term friend and fellow socialite Edith Venter.
Madikizela-Mandela and her daughter Zinzi were among those at the funeral.
The service took place under a marquee while a thunderstorm raged overhead.
After the service, Crane's coffin was carried out to the hearse in heavy rain.
The storm hit the area shortly before the service started, knocking over umbrellas and blowing bouquets from their stands.
Despite expectations of a high turnout, only about 200 people attended the service.
National and metro police maintained a discreet distance at the service.
