Johannesburg - About 50 residents of Kliptown, Soweto, marched to the local police station on Saturday in a protest over the "slow delivery" of housing, police said.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Thembi Nkwashu said a representative of Gauteng housing MEC Nomvula Mokonyane received a memorandum from the Kliptown Concerned Residents Association, and the marchers dispersed peacefully about 11:00.
Sipho Jantjie of the residents association complained of the "slow delivery of housing" in Kliptown. He said some of the existing houses in the area still do not have waterborne sewerage or electricity.
The Freedom Charter was adopted by the Congress of the People at Kliptown in 1955.
