Johannesburg - A gang of five men armed with handguns raided three houses in a row at Katlehong Extension 20 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, East Rand police said.
Sergeant Zithini Dlamini said household goods valued at R3 000 were stolen when the gang broke open the door of the first house around midnight. The men left the scene on foot.
The second break-in happened nearby about 01:00 when a woman, 42, woke up to find five men in the house. A pillow was held over her face to stop her screaming for help. The men left on foot with household goods valued at R6 000.
Dlamini said the gang struck again at 01:15 when a woman, 45, was woken by the gang kicking down the kitchen door. Once again the five men left on foot, this time with goods worth R5 000.
Dlamini said no shots were fired and no one was hurt during the robberies. No arrests were made but anyone who could help to identify the robbers was asked to contact Detective Inspector Ngwenya on 011 617 3600.
