Pretoria - Convicted murderer De Wet Kritzinger was given three life sentences in the Pretoria High Court on Friday for killing three black commuters on a bus in the city in 2000.
He received an additional 40 years for the attempted murder of four other people who were wounded in the racially-motivated attack. He was sentenced to 10 years on each count.
Bus driver Mduduzi Graeme Nyembe and passengers Thembekile Constance Phasha and Gogo Connie Mathebula in Constantia Park died in the attack on January 12 2000.
Testifying in mitigation of sentence earlier, Kritzinger said he did not believe it was wrong to kill black people because he did not regard them as fellow human beings.
