Joburg hospitals get more lifts

Pretoria - Two hundred lifts and elevators are to be installed in Gauteng hospitals and government buildings, the public transport, roads and works department said on Monday.
In a statement MEC Ignatius Jacobs said about R120m would be spent on new lifts and elevators.
The department said it was confident that service delivery would improve "significantly" with the replacements of old lifts with new ones.
The department was in the process of finalising a contract to this effect.
The project was being implemented in view of the ageing and recurrent malfunctions of the current machinery in many of the public service points, most of which had been in service for more than thirty years.
The first batch of 100 lifts would be assembled and installed after the older ones were removed, Jacobs said.
